scott8629 0
Im thinking of buying a de cat pipe for my 96 VR6.Few questions to the guys in the know:-Are these any good?Any decent gains to be had by fitting one? Will I have to reset the ECU?Where and what price to pay?ThanksScott
Slim 0
I got a Supersprint system fitted to my car a few weeks ago by one of the top tuning companies in Scotland who are VAG specialists. I asked about getting a decat too, but they advised me against it as it doesn't give any power gains and is an unnecessary hassle at MOT time. I'd spend your money on something else tbh. CHRISVR6 0
Yeah dont bother, got mine done a while back and no difference at all.

VR6Pete 1,455
ive been advised not to get a de-cat by a few people now.... you dont really need to de-cat it unless your pushin at least 250BHP + (forced induction)
dubloke 4
so that'll be fine for me then pete! starting to get a little concerned now by the conflicting information given in the modding fields as to whats best and whats not!
chrisgbrindley 0
Darn it! I just laid out £75 for one and it arrived today. I will see what its like tommorow when I get it fitted. I got a chip this week too I thought that would be a con but it nice actually. I thought a de-cat pipe gives you about 4-5 more BHP? Meant to make it sound beefier aswell. six appeal 53
I've heard gives you more BHP on a normally aspirated VR, but at the cost of mid range torque! So in theory will make it slower!
Eat this 2
iv no idea what it does to the torque/power graph my car seems to pull fine and the torque graph looks ok but omfg it sounds good!!!!
danb 0
mine pulls slightly better midrange since putting the cat back on for the mot . think i might sell my de-cat pipe !
MarkGolf 6
My friend fitted one to his corrado, fair enough, was a 16v, but it felt smoother being a passenger and the noise of the thing!A TVR Rumble!!
VR6Pete 1,455
anyone willing to get a RR of before and and after a de-cat?
chrisgbrindley 0
Had mine put on today its a supersprint I bought off Andrew Chapple (VR6Vento) it seems to make the car a bit quicker definately a more throaty roar when you drive it hard. The bloke who fitted it said I should look at increasing the fuel pressure on my car due to all the engine mods (K&N 57i, Stainless steel sports exhaust, Viper 2 chip) I reckon hes talking bollocks but I dont know hardly anything about engines, should I take it to a tuners? What do you reckon my BHP is?
Eat this 2
the chip is what increases the fueling so unless its a crap map u should be putting more fuel in anyway

ingham 5
note: uping fuel pressure will not put that more fuel in !if u doulble fuel pressure fuel will only go up by about 15% at most
Nerih 0
its better to get ur car chipped and then MAPPED (yeah this is the key lol) so that the chip has a map that matches ur car, only profetssionals can map ur car for max bhp/torque...when and if i do mine it will be done at stealth (oh yeah dream on...and ill get a shrick while im there too....lol)
chrisgbrindley 0
I found chipped UK fine to deal with. The chip has made a difference idle is better & its a bit more responsive. I reckon thats what the tyreman meant by increasing the fuel pressure, getting it mapped he said they have special computers there to do it but that can wait, a respray is more of a priority at the moment.
