jesterwalker69 0
Right ppl, my rear brakes are shot to sh*t and due to other things braking i ended up missing out on the GB on the 280mm rear brake kit.So i am still looking to upgrade my rears but on a budget. I am thinking mk4 brakes? How much hassle is it to get some 2nd hand Mk4 rear brakes and discs fitted? And are they any bigger coz if not then i will just buy new standard mk3 pads and discs!Cheers chaps and chapesses
jws vr6 0
I'd think fitting mk4 brakes to a mk3 would be alot of work as mk3 uses tapered wheel bearings in the disc and the mk4 doesnt. Not sure though, may be a simple swop. Not sure about size tho.Mine are nakered aswell on all 4 corners and i was thinking to get drilled/grooved discs and deacent pads for the back, and get the 312mm setup up front. xyber 1
I think ECS do a TT rear brake conversion?
cadguy77 0
I've had a chat with the phirm about this recently as i brought the 280mm disc upgrade in the recent group buy.MK4 rear calipers use a bigger piston so should see improved braking with the right pads.Parts needed (afaik) are MK4 rear calipers and rear brake line with banjo (sp) connections.I'm not sure if it's an ar.se of a job to do, but i'm under the impression that it's not.I'll let you know how i get on

jesterwalker69 0
Any more info on this chaps/chapesses?Fitted the new rear pads and the caliper is VERY stiff, pretty much seized so as opposed to buying a new mk3 caliper i may as well use it as an excuse for an upgrade Any info would be MUCH appreciated, thanking you
Rikki 2
Think you need mk4 handbrake cable too!
DanH 1
are skoda octavia rear callipers the same? theres a whole rear beam from a tdi taxi at work and ive been eyeing up the callipers for ages lol
gavinvr6 0
i recently bought mk4 rear calipers from a 1.8t to fit to my vr6 after being told they are direct swap, the only difference being the slightly larger caliper and that unlike the vr items they are alloy and dont seize. i was also lead to belleive that you can use original vr pad's/cables/brake line's and that they mount up using the places/bolts
jesterwalker69 0
Well let me know how you get on please matey as really need to sort this and dont see the point in spending wonga on the same parts, my as well get bigger and better!
VR6_Absy 0
I fitted mk4 rears recently with goodridge hoses. Fit straight on, only thing u need to do is squeeze the loop that retains the handbrake cable as the nipple on the mk3 is smaller than mk4
jesterwalker69 0
So just to clarify fella what do i need to complete the job starting from scratch?
VR6_Absy 0
mk4 rear calipers, goodridge mk3 banjo hose (standard brake line end with banjo caliper end), vice or clamp to squeeze the handbrake lever loop.Brake fluidFew spannersi bought some brand new calipers from an ebay shop for £95 the pair
jesterwalker69 0
Spot on, thank you mate
jesterwalker69 0
How easy is it to fit larger rear discs? I'm not wanting them for performance purposes just want them to look a bit better compared to the fronts!
gavinvr6 0
how much are the brake lines? also why are banjo fittings needed? do the original lines not screw in? my calipers have been sitting in my cupboard for age's and i really need to fit em as my o/s has seized yet again on the hand brake.that's 2 calipers in 3 years with same problem and i fitted a new one last time
michael5556 247
i know this is an old skool thread but has anyone done this and had any luck with it?
jesterwalker69 0
Yer I got my mechanic to do it and works fine
HAMMER_VR6 0
Yeah i replaced my rear brakes recently for the mk4 rears and it works well. My last calipers were seized so i noticed a huge improvement, but if your mk3 brakes are working ok then you probably wont notice. However mk3 brakes are prone to seizing, the mk4's are made of alloy and supposed to be less prone to seizing. You need mk3 discs and padsyou use the original caliper carrier and just use mk4 calipers.I think from memory you also need to change the brake hoses. as mk4 calipers have a banjo fitting. Goodridge do the conversion hoses. The handbrake cable fits as normal.
