What's this worth....? K-reg VR6 3dr 148k

Recommended Posts

Rite then.....

Im looking at buying a K-reg VR6 3dr with 148k on the clock.

Current owner has had the car for the last 3 years.

My only concern is the cam chain..... he doesn't recall having it changed and I couldn't find a receipt in his documentation.

It has had FVW service history up to 90k then a specialist has done it.

It has 17" Kahn alloys, Lowered on shocks & springs and has full Highline Black Leather.

Bodywork work wise it needs a drivers door and one of the quarters has had previous damage, now fixed but the paints not to clever....

Ive offered him £1500 for it

What would you lot do..... take it or leave it????

Opinions please ????????

Being a K reg and not having a yes answer with regards to the chains I would factor that into the cost. Especailly with those miles. It would maybe not be so much of a problem with an OBD2 car as the tensioners are different and not as prone to wear....

From the pic I wuld say it looks tidy enough but I think you can pick up better for that money...

Perhaps knock another £250 off if possible but get those chains done !

Mark.

it sounds as if it needs at least 500 quid spending on it asap, so if you've got 2k to spend then you could do better. I would for-go the leather for a better car, leather often comes up on ebay for any thing from 200-600 so if you buy a decent car it can be worth the extra later on?

Also I can't see them khans adding any value IMO wheels are such a personal thing, not every body likes my wheels but at least I have the standard BBSs to put back on if I want. does it come with the originals??

Mechanically, i'd say 148k miles isn't an issue. My Highline has got 150k on it and pulls just as well as my mates who VR has 90k on it. They will go on over 200k if well looked after!

Body wise, get some quotes in about the door and rest-mine needed some work doing to it when i bought mine but well worth the money spent.

Definitely look else where. You should be able to pick up one of the same age without the damage to the bodywork for that price. If a car has been well looked after it shouldnt have damage like that left untreated. If the chains haven't been done you are looking at around £800 to get them done - the tensioners could well be on their last thread. If you can wait a bit longer, for around £2.5k you will get a far lower mileage newer example that has been well looked after without any dents at all. Plus OBD2's have better engine management and on average 10bhp more. One thing to do is to ask any seller how long they let the car warm up before taking it over 3 - 3.5k revs. If they look at you blankly or say around 5 mins they aren't looking after their car and I'd walk away. Should be warmed up for at least 15mins or 10 mins in the summer to reach 88-90deg oil operating temp. Another thing to do is to ring up the garage that has serviced the car recently and ask their opinion on what work is likely to need doing in the near future - that way you get an idea of the cost involved that you can knock the sellers price down by.

Good luck in your search mate.
