mk3anni 0
I'd say immobiliser or crank position sensor from the first part of your post, but the fact you cant talk to the ecu confuses me.
jims13 6
maybe relucter ring around the ignition switch, or the ign switch itself, as that what mine as doing, would start sometimes then not other's, try puting a bit of pressure on the switch and giving it a turn. i ended up replacing the key and switch, and glueing the immobiser chip out of the key to the ring in the steering coloum, makes life easier if i have any problems in the future.hth jim
clarkie 1
soz forgot to say we changed the ignition switch first as we was 99% sure it would be that but that made no difference. stu
Jk* 0
I say this everytime a problem like this comes up, but thats only because its happened to me. Try testing the MAF or seeing if you can get a mate to swap them over. Just a thought.
clarkie 1
have also tested the maf previously when i has probs and that seems ok. just cnt see why vag com cant comunicate with the car.
Russ_vr6 12
id say crank position sensor as a guess mate

Andi 0
Does sound like imobiliser prob, but.Sorry to stick my nose in as a newbie and all but have you checked all the basics like is the fuel pump working ?
Backo 0
Maybe worth disconnecting battery for half an hour and letting the ecu reset itself and checking on vag-com again???,does the car run fine when its eventually started?
clarkie 1
checked the fuel pump. that works fine. it did run fine once started but wont start at al now. we did disconnect the battery for a couple of mins , how lojng should it be left to reset its self? thanks. stu
Backo 0
a good half hour stu.this also might reset your alarm, does the car turn over and is it trying to fire?,ive got a code reader and if the immobiliser is on you get the error code!,good luck
ingham 5
sounds like imobiliser prob.mine did similar only vws computer could recode it
Russ_vr6 12
has it an aftermarket immob or just the transponder in the key? could be the reader coil
clarkie 1
yeh it wil fire up then die.. its just the standard vw alarm and imob. think im goin 2 have to take it to vw .
clarkie 1
sounds like imobiliser prob.mine did similar only vws computer could recode itdid you try puttin it on vag com or any other code reader? if so what was coming up on the screen? thanks . stu
Russ_vr6 12
if it runs for a sec then dies mate i would say def immob coz thats what happens when we order keys, before the key is coded,it will start the car but the car cuts out straight away
gav_113 0
when we tried that code reader at rolling road day it worked fine? if vag com doesn't work then i say that there is a communication problem with the ECU..and that is ur problem?
jims13 6
immobiliser coil, grab one from another car , as they are not car specific, and bung it on , 20 min job and will cost you next to nothing.
clarkie 1
if it runs for a sec then dies mate i would say def immob coz thats what happens when we order keys' date='before the key is coded,it will start the car but the car cuts out straight away[/quote']this is exactly what its doin. jim i will try what you said and see what happens. VR6_Absy 0
You should still be able to run Vagcom with an uncoded key as it will turn to the ignition lights position but just won't start. Have you done the Autoscan with Vagcom to identify all the controllers yet ?
clarkie 1
disconnected the battery for well over half hour and stil the same.
