215/45/R17-to rub or not to rub!!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm going to put these wheels on tomorrow

1159812280_4571_FT0_vr6_008_.jpg

The tyres on them are 215/45/R17, also got 25mm(i think) spacers. Now i've read lots on rubbing of arches etc and the general opinion seems to be that they need to be 40's. Do the spacers make a difference?? The car is lowered, by how much I dont know, on Koni's. Has anybody else got these rims?? cheers for any advice

Could be wrong but i would say they will probably rub.The spacers wont help either as they will reduce the offset and hence push the wheel further out nearer the arch lip.

Depends on how low your car is, if it aint that low then you might be ok as long as you dont load it or lower it anymore.

Trial fit them and try and judge where the inner lip is in comparison to the outside of the tyre.

HTH

215 40`s rub so a 45 will rub the shite out of your tyres, how wide are those rims 8 j ? if they are you will have all sorts of clearance probs on those tyres without arch mods be carefull as you can seriously damage your front or rear arches if the contact is too great!!!! you dont want a bent wing! or rear 1/4 panel

Offset is definitely the key here, i think our beloved beasts like around a 32-40 or so offset so if you look to knocking 25 off that with your spacers you can work it out. Ie. I got some monzas which are 7.5jx17 with a 51 offset, to run these I need adaptors which are 20mm so my offset will then be 31 which should be fine on 205/40/17 rubber...make sense? Mind you, if your car is slammed then none of it really matters as bigger wheels will f'k you up.

Now I'm worrying. Sorry to hijack but I got some 17x7.7s with a 51 offset ( with 20mm adaptors on), looking to strap 205/40/17s on and I'm lowered on konis (non adjustable). We looking at rub or will i get away with it? i aint sure what the koni kit lowers by, don't think it's as much as 40mm. Hmmmmm.

Adds, if you want 16s look in the for sale section at mt TT 5 spokes, £200 (no tyres).

If you like your deep dish stuff look here, www.tunershop.co.uk got mine from them highly recommend and very good prices for £ uk and free delivery inc, i am running 8x17 RH ZW1`s and only get minor rub on severe bumps, i am running 205 40 17 toyo tyres and mines dropped down about 50mm on FK Coilovers

The KONIS drop 30-35mm ,the backs are non ajustable, the only ajustments are the high depending on the starting point you've set it.

I think up to 35et no problem with rubbing.

I run 32et and it rubbed.

DIY arch rolling and used original(new) bump stop -10mm solved all :)

ok, these are the figures for the wheels. 8J , 5 x 112 , ET60 but with 25mm spacers so ET35. Now i know the tyres are too big and need to change to 40's but should these fit. 2 garages have said no (without even trying them) going to another one on Mon thats a mate of my bro's so hopefully will get a better service.
