Bringing this back from the dead. How did you guys get on fitting the porsche calipers?
-
Nice one. Ye it hasn't been driven much as it's in a 1000 bits. Hopefully get it out for summer!
-
You in Aberdeen mate? Not many forum folk this far up. How well do the brembos fit under the 16's? Thought 17's were needed!

What about front anti roll bar? You had an experience with them? -

Bringing this back from the dead have the opportunity to get my hands on a nuespeed rear arb (28mm). Would this be too much if I was keeping the front arb standard? Would I be better off spending that bit extra for a full eibach kit? What do people think? Cheers -
Hi guys. Been looking and big brake set ups for various reasons, main one being boredom. Wondering that the 'adaptor' that comes with most kits is for? Is it because the carrier spacing is larger on the bigger kits? And do the new larger calipers need raised up? Any info on going to larger calipers would be appreciated:)

Purely out of curiosity and to see peoples opinion.. What are the advantages of a coil pack over the older dizzy on obd1's? Also how complex is the conversion? Will the loom have to be changed at all? Ecu? I've read on various websites about changing things like timing covers and cam sensors, but what else is involved? Any info appreciated:)

Thought I'd give this a little update as it's been a while. Finally got round to getting the rear beam shot blasted.. Was going to get it powder coated but I'm skint and still needed to burn out the remaining rubber from the bushes.. So here a pic of before, during, and after while it's getting primed ready for paint Brackets done too.. Also got some B5 S4 callipers for basically nothing, I'd have to go 17" I think to run them but it's always an options.. Few before and after primer.. Sorry for the pic heavy nature but thought I'd get some pics up! Next up is a change of paint for 25

Can only seem to buy them in kits that are £300 plus. And I can really afford that right now! Group buy sounds interesting though, keep me updated:)

Lookig for a rear ARB for my vr6. 22m, 25mm what you got?!
-
Bridge of don too, just round the corner from BOD academy. Surprised I haven't seen this about!!
-
Agree with Pete. Is it obd1 or 2? If it's for simple things like clearing some codes you can get a cheap reader from eBay. I got one for like £20 and its great to get rid of abs/SRS/eml lights if I ever get one:)

vento vr6 still not starting

Have you tried the coil pack itself? May be faulty. -
Welcome mate! I'm also in Aberdeen. Lovely looking mk2. Where abouts in Aberdeen are you!?

Wheel spacers for the front of 9j
Cooz93 replied to VR6DEN's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Might want to expand on this mate.. I have 8J banded Steels on the front with no spacer. All depends on offset really:) -
Got this sorted, kind of. All fitted up just need to make a sleeve to fit over the polo 9n hub to make the mk3 abs ring compatible, and hopefully it should work. DIY is also up in this section if anyone is interested:)
-
Sounds like the immobiliser. You could probably get a new ecu and a set of keys from a breakers on eBay etc. Pretty sure that would sort it, it a bit of a hassle. Not sure if vagcom can isolate/bypass the immobilser.
-
As long as you get the angles bang on when you weld it back together there shouldn't be a problem. You may or may not have an issue with the abs. I have a feeling the mk4 works on a similar setup to the mk3 but as I haven't seen both I couldn't tell. I do believe the both use 'cages' for abs detection unlike the polo which uses the Bosch system and has the abs built in the back of the hub. A problem which I hope to figure out this weekend. Keep us updated with what you find mate:)
-
By mounting section do you mean something similar to what I did with the polo 9n beam? Chuck up some pictures mate might shed some light:)
-
Got everything mocked up and one calliper rebuilt this weekend. Just need to figure out how the abs will work with the polo 9n set up.. Pic of it all mocked up. Amnt 100% sure if that's the right caliper for that side as it was done in a rush!
-
I'm not too sure mate. I guess it will due to the spacer plate but unsure how the two stub shafts compare. I'll mock old and new up tomorrow and have a measure!
-
Thought I'd do a write up for a 256mm conversion as I've just done one to my mk3 and finding answers wasn't the easiest. What you'll need. 256mm brake set up. Discs, pads, carrier, calliper. Probably from a mk4 golf. Polo 9n stub axles - PN 6Q0 501 117 Polo 9n rear hubs - PN 6Q0 598 611 Banjo type brake lines Next part, you can either saw off the axle spacers from a polo 9n like I did, pictures below, with the rough edge milled flat. Or you can buy lupo gti axle spacers. P/N are 6E0501465A for left and 6E0501466A for right. You'll will also need longer stub axle bolts and longer calliper c

Little update.. Got all the bits I needed for the conversion. Including milling down the axle spacers and cleaning them up. Few pictures.. I then went and got some longer bolts for the stub shaft as the spacer now needs to be attached. Also for the calliper carrier Mounted them up with a washer in between the carrier and spacer. Need a slightly thicker spacer between carrier and axle spacers so will get them made up at work. Pic of it all mocked up.. All for now, hopefully get the callipers rebuilt this weekend and get the set up fully mocked up. Cheers:)

A little update. After searching for about 3/4 days straight to sort out the rear brake situation. The solution was polo 9n. Went to the local scrappy and luckily found a 9n! Got about hacksawing the rear hub assembly off. A few bloody knuckles later I had both sides.. Went about splitting them to get hub and stub axle. Will replace hub/bearing before final fit but though I'd try it with the parts I have. Also instead of using the axle spacers from a lump gti, I'm going to try and use there bits from the polo 9n axle. I've hacksawed them off, and will get them milled down at work to fit!
