He said he had changed the engine twice, put a replacement in but had dodgie seals, so put another in. But who knows. Runs spot on just now:)

Got this fitted the other day and what a difference! Haven't taken it for a proper blast yet just around town but it's 100 times better. Highly recommend Dave's work:)

Hi guys! Thought I'd get a build thread up to track the progress of my VR project! My latest purchase, more as a project is a 1992 OBD1 in mystic blue, with 192k on the shell and '90k' on the engine, but no proof of this! Plan in stripping the engine and rebuilding it when funds allow it anyways so mileage doesn't bother me:) [spec wise for the car it's fairly standard, sitting on some carrado speed lines and some AP coilovers. The interior has been re trimmed in leather and blue suede centres. Since getting to the car I've done a few things, mainly interior. Changed out the blue/purple door

Unsure if this will be the correct section, but dunno where to put it! Having problems with my exterior door handles, when I go to open them, it takes a few tries and a fairly hard pull to open. The passenger is worse than drivers. If that the lock mechanism etc out and cleaned up, wd40'd etc but still really stiff! And one day, knowing my luck it's going to come off in my hand haha. Anyone got any ideas what's causing this and what could fix it? Thanks:)

Thanks mate:)

Sort of off topic.. But what are the two round things in the picture, in between the circlip and driveshaft nut? I recently done my cv joints and the kit I had didn't have them, and nothing like that came off? Should I be worried? Haha

Thanks for the link bud, looks like a pretty decent site, good prices too:)

Will be looking to get some standard replacement parts for the VR soon, mainly suspensions. But just wondering where people go? I know Euro car parts and GSF are quite popular.. But is there anywhere else? Thought I'd chuck it out there and see what's most popular:)

Making the steering heavier/more feel
Cooz93 replied to Cooz93's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Nice one, I know I need an alignment as the steering wheel is squint, but I just done both cv joints so it's down to that. So will give that a go and hopefully that will sharpen it up:) don't suppose you know the settings? Often hard getting a decent set up at the place I go to, I think they have more of a general setting compared to a specific car setting:) -
Hi guys! Not an issue as such but wondering if there's a way to make the steering a bit heavier to give it more 'feel'. Obviously I don't want to remove the power steering, cause it would be like driving a tank. But whenever I take the car for a spirited drive, I just feel like there's a lack of feel from the steering. Possibly due to tyres aswel as the profile it quite high, bit that will be sorted soon. Any ideas? Or is it something I'll have to deal with? All the steering components are fine, suspension, bushings etc. and no leaks from the rack etc. and tips/ideas appreciated:)

Also, before I start removing these. How are the secured on? Just so I know how to go about removing them, without damaging. I had a mk2 and they were just held on with 4 or so self tappers, same idea?

Nice one cheers for the reply. Na sorry mate it's a 3 door!

Hi guys.. I've got a 1992 obd1 vr and I'm contemplating removing the plastic arch trims for a cleaner look. Depending on how rusty they are(hopefully not very) But was wondering is there a difference between the wings/arches from OBD1 with plastic arches, to an OBD2 without. I.e does the never version have wider arches or are they the same? Cheers in advance:)

Thanks for that! The car is going off the road in a few days so can have a proper look then and get whatever it is sorted. Will update when I get round to it:) -

Sounds exactly like my problem. And mine also goes away when warmed up. Maybe I also need an oil change so might have to do that soon! -
Just wondering if an OMP rear strut from a mk2 will fit a mk3? Have one lying around from my old mk2 and thought I might put it to use? Cheers

Hi guys, my bates currently breaking his mk4 golf after it went though an mot, and came back with a list as long as his arm. So just had a though of taking the dash and putting it in my MK3? A little more modern look. How hard would this be? Would I need adapters for the loom? And size wise, will it need cutting at at? Any help would be great! Cheers

Cheers for the reply! Checked out that website and seems a decent bit of kit for the price! Will be late this year before I go for it due to just starting a new job. But will definitely keep this in mind. Cheers

Loud tapping noise, LHS of engine
Cooz93 replied to Cooz93's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Little update, took it into work today and the boss said he has exactly the same problem on an old Audi he has. He said it was a pulley not being lubricated properly, and told me to squirt a little DW 40 in behind the pulleys. And so far it's gone. It got a lot better when warmed up but not seems to have gone completely. Will keep an eye on it though. Cheers for your help guys!! -
Loud tapping noise, LHS of engine
Cooz93 replied to Cooz93's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Thanks for that info! Didn't realise the chains were at the other side. Haven't had a chance to look yet due to lighting issues. I reckon it's a tensioner of some kinda. But could be the water pump as Pete said. I'll have an in depth look tomorrow and see what it could be. Hopefully nothing major. -

What the best way to diagnose what it is? It didn't sound as bad when warmed up tonight if that helps? Will just be a case of changing then tensioners and seeing if it that solves it? If not change out the water pump? -

I'm taking in to work tomorrow to have a proper look. Was dark when I noticed the noise last night. My boss is in to his vw's aswel so hopefully he will have an idea. How much would I be looking at for parts if I had to change the tensioners/chains? -

Cheers. Ye I know it's a weird one. Sounds like belt/chain related. Anyone else got any ideas? -
