  1. My 4 year old chuffed to bits to be riding shotgun in Dad's "broom broom" car as he puts it...
  2. A rather wet but well attended Kirkcudbright Classic Car Show.. found a nice original mk2 Gti to park next to..bonus!
  3. Winter hibernation in the spray booth..just a few easy jobs here n there and she'll be ready for shiny summer wheels and the road again...! After 2 years off the road excited is an understatement!!
  4. I guess you're right, I just wish I had one that wasn't damp, dusty and shared with 3 others... It beats rebuilding on driveway though I suppose!
  5. Bitten off little more than I can chew feeling at moment......
  6. Progress update... Windscreen, roof lining and trim all back in.. Was definitely a lot easier getting lining out, not a job I'd be in a hurry to repeat! Slight issue with screen height, my scuttle panel doesn't quite seal with the screen? Anybody any thoughts on a fix for this? Seal sits about 3mm proud of actually contacting the screen! Not enough height on windscreen sealant but it's in now so it will be staying put.
  7. Windscreen out for rust n leak repair
  8. Thank you, a second opinion is always reassuring! I'm doing most things as a first time so little unsure sometimes..
  9. Have a quick search, top of my head it's just under 2 litres to fill. (or two bottles of mt90) if it does turn out to be the box, either get a 3.6FD put in at same time as rebuild or you can put a Golf v5 box in instead (3.9FD). That's what I did but not driven it yet as mine still undergoing rebuild.
  10. I've never used any gearbox additive so couldn't say but fresh oil would be my first port of call, you'd be shocked at state old oil comes out like. If it works then you've saved some £££ (and can then replace cheap oil for mt90 knowing it's not a waste) Gearbox rebuild is costly unless you diy.
  11. Update- windscreen out this week, took my time with some 0.6mm mig wire and two handles (spanners). Screen had slight leak so needed to investigate. Found this! Thankfully in nick of time. Anybody have an input to the best way to clean and prep before I put screen back in? Was thinking wire wheel, rust treatment then primer...?
  12. I would recommend trying some fresh oil in your gearbox first? Might well be that oil is past it and getting too thin once warmed up? Don't need to go daft with mt90 or anything just try some cheaper comma or equivalent to see if solves it?
  13. I had similar issue with my vr after battery had been disconnected for few months, turned out immobiliser (selca im.22 or something) had "forgotten" the key fob and so was activating fuel/spark cut off when I tried to start it. Simple but worth a look if you haven't already done so...
  14. Front Calipers back on, nice new seals n refresh on paint. Engine back together after doing timing chains, clutch and an as yet untested v5 EBS Gearbox... It better work I've put £40 worth of MT90 in it!!!
  15. Thanks very much, more progress yesterday, unfortunately due to work family I only manage 1 or 2 days each month so it's been slow. Rear arches cut, welded, sealed.
  16. Cheers Pete, thank you. I really should have been more active up until now. I've learnt a wealth of knowledge from being a vr6oc member and should be trying to put something back! Maybe a build thread once I get it all together again.
  17. Hi everyone...after 3 years of membership I suppose I better introduce myself to keep using the forum. Got my 98 highline 4 years back and since then it's had nearly every bolt undone/cleaned/renewed over 2 rebuilds. Currently still in garage, on rebuild number 2 ( all the things I missed/couldn't afford first time round!). Pregnant Wife and a 2 year old make this list rather large! Down in Stranraer SW Scotland so well out of way. Anyone swinging by or catching boat drop me a line (I work on it)
