So I'm rereading the Golf+ magazine with the mk3 buying guide, and although it is very good it does state that the VR6 came as a 2.9 after 1994. I am well accustomed to the OBD1 is slower than the 2 due to better engine management blah blah but havent heard of the 2.9 being in anything other than the Corrado. Also nice little shout out to the forum at the end too or as Jensen puts it 'the little perks'

I have recently taken the ebay coilovers off the VR and put some lovely as new Koni Sport dampers with a 35mm drop Vogotland springs, problem is the sport dampers have much larger spring platforms and seem to scrub on the wheels which isnt exactly good. Any thoughts on how to remove scrubbing without changing wheel/tyre size? Currently have about 1 degree of camber with thanks to the premium member fitting guide but dont really want to go much more positive and more negative increases the scrubbing Also the shocks didnt come with any instructions so could anyone tell me which direction harden

V6 4motion to keep or not to keep?
Leftoutside replied to deadmeat's topic in Syncro, R32 and 4motion
Depends, if you get good money for it in part ex then I would say its worth it. The Mk5 2.0 TFSI lump is pretty fantastic, although only 4 cylinders it packs a good punch. But the 6 cyl is always going to sound and perform better in terms of straight line speed (lets not bring the whole vr6 weighs too much and unbalances the car argument in because its negligible at best) regarding the amount of money you spend, New GTI = 12k? spend a third of that on you 4mo and supercharge it, sort the shocks with some premium dampers and you would have a sweet ride. -
Just bath the engine parts in Gunk, engine degreaser and then wash down with a stiff brush and some water. That should do the trick shouldnt take long either.

Well, they say that the RS is better on fuel than the ST in most driving conditions - dont ask why because I havent a clue but it definitely seems that way. The RS regularly trumps my MPG and is always sat between 70-90 while to get 35 and up im sat at 60. A breathed upon block is usually always more efficient. In comparison the VR pulls well and is in the low 7s but the RS has almost double the horsepower and double the torque and sounds pretty phenomenal (almost as good as the VR ) so it really is no contest. It handles like nothing else too! The closest thing he has had to the VR in terms

Nah the surrounds need changing really to make them sweet. So how does the HID set up work then? Do you have HID side lights and standard projectors and what not? I cant get my head around whether or not the HID will work with hi and low beam
-
Which? The Fk's? I would be well interested in that set up! They do a xenon conversion for £600 but that's a tad steep!

From my OBD1 i get about 35 if driving at a modest 60 on a run, I have even managed almost 40 (39.something) with heavy coasting (Wales has a lot of hills) but generally see about 20 round town and 32 on a run. Dads Focus RS is better than that seeing 35 easy at 70-80 but its not about the MPG is it...

Ive been doing a lot of night driving recently and have come to the decision that the light given from the hella quads is poor (I have the cross hair set) and although they look really good I think im going to have to change them, the surrounds have also a few broken clips so it makes sense. So the first question is, has anyone tried or seen a pair of FK angel eyes? http://www.venommotorsport.com/product_details.php?id=1013&manufacturer=FK&category=Lighting I know the whole angel eye thing is a bit chav but i quite like them, and although the angel eye bit does almost nothing for me th

Lol you sound like your definitely in the same situation as me then haha. Its not fun because i love the car and the ITB idea is fantastic, seen a few videos and LOVE the sound, mental, but like you say its a bit pricey and its not that i cant run one just that exact reason, there would be a lot more safety cash should i need it. I think ill end up getting a mk2 16v and putting a vr6 in eventually, buy and restore the lump and eventually tune it, but just for curiosity's sake whats involved in a 1.8t conversion and would it be advisable?
-
Now that does sound quite interesting then. Shall be looking into that a lot more closely then I think.
-
Well as much as I like the 1.8t (which I may end up with as a daily for those exact reasons when a job is sorted) I'm completely sold on the vr6 based purely on the noise if I'm honest, with hopes of supercharging it when the money starts rolling in (obviously long term) while the mk4 is a little out of my price range for a serviceable one, a 2.0 still gives me the mobility and the ability to do the refurb as much I can myself as I love to get greasy. I think it just comes down to the dirty question to sell up or stay in for the long haul. Could always get a cheap runaround and do a leisurely

Lol I know i can get 35 on a run if im sensible which is great but its the start stop driving thats killer, did a bit of work for a few weeks and drained fuel on a small 20 minute journey which just dented the cash flow is all. I was just thinking I can get a 2.0l lump for about £100-200 and fit it myself if its as easy as im expecting and hey presto 30mpg round town and then the saved petrol money would go to the refurb fund. But i know its a bit counter intuitive, i just need a car to get about in too

Right, The story goes like this: Im a student and running a VR6 is a dream, but starting working life is going to be crushing with fuel at the current price especially if the job search doesnt go extremely well (actually thinking of applying to VW). So the current list of ideas to cut costs are as follows. Swap the VR6 for a 2.0 16v to save on fuel and refurb the vr lump until fuel isnt so much of an issue Get a mk2 16v (with the intention of putting a vr6 in eventually) bear the vr6 (my current favourite option and not an impossible one) So any advice as to whats the best option really, ive

Grands storm grey VR6! oshhhhh!
Leftoutside replied to grandmstramrod's topic in Members Rides and Event Photos
Its nice to see another 20 year old How much is the insurance in Chester? Im in the Bangor area atm, think ive only seen two other VRs in the metal round here, But its nice to be a bit exclusive -
Nah its not like that, were not rich or anything. Just weighing up the options of what to have next. An R32 would be the ideal but at 7k for an ok one its well out. I didnt realise they would be so expensive with not really 5ks worth extra specially when its 2-3k for a 4mo which is only 500-700 quid more than my vr6 which ive paid for.
-
Looks like ive opened up a can of worms haha. Think they both have their merits and both sound distinc but the 12v is more raw and the 24v is more refined as has been said. And 100% with you on the R32 being a much more sorted product and one i would clearly go for had money not been quite so tight. But it does look like the 4mo is the safer option. Problem with the 12v is its getting on a bit and saftey wise my parents want me in something a bit newer, and although mines been resprayed its going to start getting rusty eventually. plus 4wd
-
I thought as much tbh, and with 40bhp and 30 torque difference 5K can easily liberate that from the 4mo. I just love the R32 but I imagine that the 4mo is the cheaper solution. Cheers for the confirmation either way!

Actually, That says quite a lot. If your coilpack model HT leads came with a 7th for the dizzy models, while my 7th is fully functioning, could get away with buying some OBD2 leads?
-
Cheers for the offer mate but im in need of a full set of leads which will more than likely come with the 7th all in but again cheers for the offer. And was looking at the dubpower leads do seem cheap but the website is a bit uninspiring, feel a bit like im about to be robbed tbh. Had any first hand experience with the website?

Having tasted my first taste of the VR6 engine for 7 months, Im definitely sorted. I did my calculations and they do give best bang for buck and looks out of most cars that I can afford. So I was thinking today, what shall I move on to, with the only 2 options shouting at me and that was VW or BMW and either R32 or a 3.8 E35 M5 both of which are fairly expensive but equally good cars and have their various traits, 4WD vs RWD considering ive had a life of front wheel drive cars should make for an interesting purchase. So obviously the only thing holding me back is price. To the main question th
-
I think it may well do, yes noticed that the other day. So im assuming ill need a set of dizzy HT leads with an extra one for the coil. Also While on the subject, my dizzy is all red, and it seems the earth cable isnt connected, am i missing a black metal cap?
-
I need a set of HT leads as the old standard ones have been on the car for what looks like ages. Ive come across a set of larger performance (non standard) ones which are off an OBD2, assuming this is of a coilpack model, while mine is a dizzy OBD1 will there be any interference?
