  1. neve do a head gasket with out skimming the head !!! Your a nurse right - thats like trying to revive some one after they bin dead a month lol Youd be stupid to do a head gasket with out getting the head skimmed and of course tested for cracks just incase.... If you wanna come play naughty nurses then ill fix your car ;-)
  2. Evening all.. Just wondering as you look at the engine on the left hand side you have your fuel feed in and fuel return pipe back to the tank.. Im just wondering is it the top hose or the bottom hose thats fuel in ???? Reason i ask is becasue ive just done the head gasket on my vr6 and it was running fine the all of a suddon it coughed and spluttered and stopped, i tried restarting and it kinda tried the died... Im thinking its ran out of fuel as the guage is pretty low, so i pulled the top pipe off and tried cranking the car and nothing came out, a little gushed out when i first pulled it off
  3. Yer i reakon that will do it, if your air con fan dont work you can rule that out, i said that becasue my air con still seams to work and all my cooling fans work.. I heard my low speed and the faster speed didnt realise there was a 3 rd lol... Try that switch mate let us know how you get on...
  4. Check out my project thread, has all the pics in there bout taking the head off.. Just done mine, i thought it was a simple head gasket which to be honest the head gasket only took 2 hrs to get head off, just then i noticed that my timing chain guides had all broke and thats a gear box off job to get to the tensioner guide that supports the top cam chain... And expensive, im in the trade as a mechanic and we get dirt cheap parts, still cost me nearly £500 so far, just spent another 80 quid on leads and plugs today because when you take the leads off to get inlet off all the metal inserts rip
  5. Shouldnt do mate, my guess i coolant temp switch now ive slept and had a think lol... Bigger intercooler = bigger lag thats all ( unless you go bigger turbo lol )
  6. Replace the leads and plugs thats a must first of all.. Id also take off you air intake and clean it all out with carb cleaner, check you air intake pipe after the air flow meter has no crackes in it as any excess air drawn in after the air flow meter will cause all sorts of problems.. 1 common fault i find in vw's is the coolant temp sender the 4 pin one in the thermostat housing, when these start to fair they make the car play up terrible becasue its telling the ecu the engine hot wen its cold or vice versa.. Switch is less than £20 replace it same time as leads and plugs and problem solved
  7. Could be any thing, from fuel pies on wrong way to a sensor not plugged in.. the fact that you have half the car in pieces it could be any ones guess.. Why didnt you do one job at a time like do matrix then do the the head gasket.. youve ripped so much appart it could be any ones guess as to what it is...
  8. Gear box turned up at luch time today so i got the box fitted in my hour lunch break, then after work i done a couple of hours putting wiring loom in and hoses etc.. wanted to hear it run so i kinda chucked every thing in there at mo will sort it all out tomoz and friday.. Only thing is it seams a bit rattly top end like tappy noise.. Im putting it down to the fack the heads been off and skimmed etc so may take a little while for the tappets to quiet down ? Its deffo not timing chain, more accross the other end of the engine, only ran it for 2 minz max, but its on clean oil, all chains, guides
  9. Thats some nice rides there pal... loving the raddo... Personaly i think who ever your boss is he pays you to much lol, i work a 50 hr week and have a pregnant nagging mrs and my cars aint like yours lol.. all my cars are poverty spec lol...
  10. I reakon its the plastic pipe that goes from the water pump to the thermostat housing, on that pipe theres a tiny take off that goes to the oil cooler i reakon he snapped that off, when i was doing my switchs i cought my hand on the clip and that plastic take off just snapped clean off, so brittle and around that much heat and made of plastic its no wonder.. Perhaps if you come to a arrangement like u pay parts they do labour free...
  11. Sounds like the rad fan switch is playing up, just change it there less than a tenner.. I wouldnt run it with no fans just incase... Sure you aint got your air con switched on ? that will keep fan on... lol
  12. I feel for ya bruv... I just got mine running after work tonight, it sounds ok but abit rattly on the top end, im guessing that will go after ive run it for a while im putting it down to tappets.... Good luck any how mate, and keep us posted on progress
  13. It will b the same vw number as the one your taking off mate, just ring up ur local parts place n quote the vw number off your old housing..
  14. Ha good one lol... I feel for you mate, it dont sound good, if it was oil cooler you would have oil in the water more so that water in the oil... If you think about it oil pressure is far greater than water pressure, there for oil squirts into the coolant syatem becasue the water cant really get passed the oil if ya see wat i mean... Try sticking a FORTE engine flush in with the oil, run it for 5 mins till warm, then drain oil and change the filter.. top up with new oil and run it again, if it goes creamy then id say 100% head gasket.. Esp since you used a 2 mm steel one and 2 standard ones, m
  15. Rocker cover fitted and new gasket New top tensioner, so now every guide, chain, tensioner has been replaced... Inlet manifold on And front panel, head lights, wiring loom, bonnet catch etc..
  16. Yeah mate, dunno why i didnt think of getting one made before, i just measured the rocker cover and cam shafts places made a card board cut out then took it up to cp iron works near my work and got them to cut it out in there press.. Cost me £3 lol, my new tensioner turned up today so i fitted that, fitted the rocker cover, and the inlet manifold.. Also got the front panel bolted back on, head lights, bonnet catch, and bumper support bracket bolted on... NEED MY GEAR BOX lol, bin waiting a week... this thursday its here then i can road test her and get her mot'd sat morning. :-)
  17. Hi all I done my head gasket and i want to make sure i got my leads in the correct order.. Does any body have a picture of the coil pack with the numbers for each lead written on it, normally coil packs have the cylinder number written on it but mines blank and auto data shows a dizzy unit lol ? Cheers guys
  18. Wanna tell your mate to keep his mouth shut when eating lol... Nice motor mate, i take it you put a private plate on it going from p reg to k reg lol, looks clean thou mate, good work
  19. you wont mate, i have the oil filter set to remove all plastic housings and out of 20 different cups not one fit... i ordered a new one for mine and when it came its got metal inside the plastic on the newer ones so impossible to break.. Youll have to get a new one mate and smash ur old one off...
  20. Yer if i wasnt able to do the work myself and have a boss good enough to let me keep it inside all the time then the labour cost would be more than its even worth.. Its a straight clean honest car, after engines done and painted she will be good as new...
  21. that is mental, the attention to detail is amazing, i love seeing a car as clean underneath as what it is on top, the paint work is mint and the powder coated engine parts is just mind blowing... 10/10 - made every one here green with envy... Keep it locked up lol....
  22. Thanks mate, thanks to the help of the guys on this forum i managed to press on pretty well today, i only do this in my lunch break and after work for a hour so i dont get a great deal of time on it.. well not as much as id like to any way lol..
  23. Hi guys... Kinda new round here and will prob need alot of help along the way so i thought id start a project thread starting from the very start of it all... I bought a 1996 vr6 vento off a friend of mine after i quoted him over £1000 to put every thing right he kinda took a deep breat, i handed over £100 and the vento was mine me bing its forth owner, my mate the 3rd, one bloke local to me owned it for 10 yrs the his sister had it for nearly 5 yrs so localy owned car.. Also had climate control and WORKING air con, 17" wheels, stainless steel system, and faded paint work lol.. Im a mechanic
  24. Thanks for that mad rocker, its the oil temp switch i snapped off, ill replace that at a later date lol im running out of money... Where did you get that diagram from elsawin ? looks very good, i bout one for a tenner and its was poooooo sticks lol
