  1. chains are gearbox side on the VR6 mate so won't be anything to do with timing. Take the belt off and have a feel for any play in any of the pulleys or roughness when spun. Easy way to check bearings, and shine light down and have a look for any signs of wear where the belt runs.
  2. Has the new Ka got a new chassis or same as last one? If it's the same as old you'll be into bottom arms and top mounts every year, welding and not to mention rear axle bushes which are a bit of a pain. Also the puma is the same chassis as Fiesta which also suffer really bad with exactly the same as the Ka. Lost count of how many Fiesta's and Ka's I've done. Wheel bearing are bit bad on mini's but dead easy to fit. Done a few of them. And with new pads sometimes the seals in the calipers go a bit crap and leak fluid out pistons when pushed back in. Happened with both calipers on one car I did
  3. It's fixed! was just air flow meter Also paid cash and come to £110 inc.VAT from VW main stealers!
  4. Bit of an update for anyone interested. As craggsy said, worth paying more to get one from VW than anywhere else as other places are re-cons. I got a quote for a re-con one from my local shop at £140. I rang up Euro Car Tarts and they said it was main dealer only so was getting ready for a heavy hit to the pocket. Rang up VW and a BRAND NEW MAF sensor reduced from close to £300 to £101.25+VAT. so not as bad as I thought.
  5. Can you remember how much they are from VW? Also can you get them from ford or do they use different MAF on the galaxy VR6?
  6. Ah ok, cheers Ben. I never thought that it'd come up as a fault if the engine wasn't running. Just presumed it was a problem sensor. And didn't think the MAF would effect starting, I thought that there wouldn't be enough air being pulled to sense anything. also the MAF, i think it's been playing up for a while with a bit of lack in power lately, but now I think it's just packed up completely. Any idea's how much for a new one? And where is best? I been quoted £120 for a new one.
  7. Just making sure. I've tried cleaning it but doesn't seem to make a difference. Didn't think the MAF would effect the starting though, And a bit confused about the engine speed sensor. Is that the crank sensor?
  8. I had the car put on Snap-On Modus and come up with a few faults. 1) O2 Sensor (Reading 1.00 set as default with no fluctuation) 2) Mass Air flow sensor fault to ground (I think) 3) Engine speed sensor no reading I have put a new O2 sensor on tonight. It still runs terrible. When I disconnect the MAF there is no change to the idle or no change when I take it up the road. It idle's terrible at cold and not so bad when it's warmer but still popping loads. When I put foot down at low revs it splutters and goes to cut out and when revs are high it's no where near enough power. Any ideas?
  9. Go VW, I bought an OE replacement one from ebay, was in the car for about 30mins and the diaphragm split and put about a litre of petrol into my inlet and hydralocked my engine. Wasn't happy. And lesson learned for trying to save a few quid,
  10. My car is misfiring if I put foot down in 1st or 2nd hard, when i change to a lower gear and accelerate it misses and backs off before coming back to life. Nothing comes up on vag-com but seems to be like a sensor breaking down causing coil to not fire. Brand new coil, leads, plugs etc etc. Getting annoying now and also sometimes feels slow. It normally squeals the tyres if i floor it from rolling at about 1500rmp in 1st as soon as it gets to about 3k. But then sometimes it doesn't. It's a bit annoying as I don't know if it's running proper power, also pops on tickover and misses. Any idea's/t
  11. dont want to put a spark plug in the exhaust if I can help it. that way if it did it when driving I can't get done for it if it's just the fact the engine's hot and extra fuel. If i get pulled with a spark plug they might say it was done on purpose and of course flame kits are a bit illegal! Won't a F/I car flame easier than an N/A?
  12. and may sound a bit weird. but how can I get it so that unburnt fuel comes out the exhaust as a flame! without it blowing exhaust apart
  13. 6 branch, decat and custom exhaust. did it loads before de-cat but now more than ever.
  14. Does every VR pop on overun? If I let it run down from any revs, it pops pretty bad. Also does the same if I coast at low revs and change down gear and revs go up. I quite like it sometimes but other times it's annoying. Nothing on vag-com either.
  15. i though it might have been on here before! but for the people who haven't had the pride from watching a VW thrape a BMW...
  16. All I can say is wow! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjgaxdl-z-g and HAHA!
  17. I've done mine with what i normally fill up at.. comes to 27mpg which is about right for me.. but then i see the example at the bottom.. "12,000 miles would cost you - £2032" So if I did no mileage this year i'd be able to spend £1500 easy on a supercharger by now
  18. I might have got a bit mixed up here.. removing the canister wont do anything no, but moving my air filter to behind the bumper vent has made the difference. Also that temp sensor would make sense as after taking the GF home last night is was showing nearly 30degree's outside at half 11 haha I just put it in the engine bay for the time being.
  19. Here are a few pics, I thought while I had it in peices I'd take the rest off and de-grease everything a bit. Used to look like this... Then this... And then... Now looks like this Now, I have one connector that I have left off.. can anyone tell me what this goes to?? (can one of the mods resize pics, my photobucket wont scale them down)
  20. Right, well I did it anyway, don't know if I should have done it but still. What I did was unclip the black hose from that pump thing, and cut the clear hose off not far from the pump, then simply connected that clear hose directly to the pump thing. Took 2 mins. And Mat, the difference is amazing having it in your bumper, and for some reason it sounds miles better. I used some 78mm samco hose straight off the MAF, to a 90 degree bend hose down through hose and attached it there. Will get some pics up i think.
  21. just putting my air filter behind the bumper, hows the best way to remove the canister? just need to know what to do with the pipe.
  22. chavs on 50cc mopeds that do 25mph but obviously are quicker than any car on the road and weave in and out of traffic and moan when people don't see them! Well to be honest.. chavs in general! (except a couple)
  23. Right, I've done my research on here and on the web.. I've been looking for a nitrous kit for my VR6. Reason is that they are cheaper to buy outright than a supercharger. I know the running cost is higher, but I'm not that bothered about that. It's for a N/A VR6 with 6 branch mani etc.. To keep it simple.. if anyone can quote this and reply with answers it'd be great. Dry shot or Wet shot? How much hp shot? How much to fill a bottle? How much will a bottle last? How much for it to be bought, fitted and set-up? Ideally I'd like it to come in at 3 - 4k revs +, but how can I wire it, or can I get
