Yes.. but then you'll want one

A fair bit of work! Lower compression, custom manifolds and custom 3 inch exhaust. Garrett GT3583r ball bearing turbo, 500cc injectors and a hell of a lot more! These engines will take it all day long, providing you are reasonable with them. ARP bolts are must, anything to make it stronger really. Bottom ends are good for 400+ without any major mods. Supercharging a vr6 is a lot cheaper, and a hell of a lot easier, but not as much power or torque from the same boost.. and I have no problems with anyone who supercharged their car, but do see a lot of charged ones and I wanted to do one that is

Oh and 10w 40 lol.. the best all round oil really. You could use a 5w 30 or a 5w 40, but these engines are pretty old now, and some of the newer full synthetic oils are too thin, and ones it starts leakin it ain't gonna stop lol

I am not running particularly high performance compared to some, as its my daily car, so no forged bottom end. Cold journeys on forget stuff everyday would kill the engine in no time! No time for the pistons to expand, just be slappin' away all the time. The best oil you can get for charged or n/a is VW's Synta Silver, however not sure if you can get this anymore.. as for power, im running 360bhp and 340ft lbs of torque. A fair few on here are above those figures though.

lol, best to me safe though.. I have a brand one at home, I bought it for when I did my turbo conversion last month, only thing is that at the moment my oil temp is ok, but come spring and summer I might be needing it!
-
Yea I understand what you mean get yourself a Mocal oil cooler too.. if your using it on the track, it'll be worth the money. A 13 row cooler should be ok, and run it with a therostatic sandwich plate. Don't want it getting too cold, but anything over 115 degrees on a regular basis, you could do with one.

From what I know, rods and pistons, crank etc are ok, however definitely get a set of ARP con rod bolts. I have them on mine and are a must for turbos and anything else non standard. Send a message to Jim Potter on here, he should be able to point you in the right direction and probably supply most of the bits.

Well my Mrs has been naughty and got me a new vr6 grill badge and a turbo jacket! As well as lots of smellies, chocolate and shut ups for the Xbox

I don't know yet as I'm too lazy to get out of bed this early on a Sunday

Titanium valve spring etc would be highly recommended for anything over the standard rev limiter.

There are a few for sale on this forum in the cars for sale section section of the market place. I don't think you can see this until you have 10 posts though, to stop people joining just to sell or buy 1 thing. I'd rather buy one of the owners club personally as you wouldn't join up here unless you are passionate about cars and going to look after them

Also can I just add, yes they do have traction control, but unless your on snow it won't work. So if you do floor it and try to spin the wheels, it will just spin. It's a very basic traction control that only comes on under a certain speed and throttle position if I remember correct. Basically it just puts the abs onto the spinning wheel, but wont cut power, and doesn't really work.

The side light comes on? Sounds more like an earth fault or wrong bulb on the back light, and when the brake light comes on its powering the side lights too, which with the door open would buzz? does is still buzz when the drivers door is fully shut? Can't see how it would do it though.

Ok, obd2 has the idle control built into the throttle body, so no worries about the idle control valve. Air leaks are a bit of a pain.. the main one is the actual crank case breather valve itself, and those connecting pipes. Bit of a tricky one really without looking. Has all of the obd2 loom been used, and has it retained its diagnostics port, I think you could do with getting it into a computer and scanning it for fault codes. without these codes, there no way of telling if there's a faulty sensor, and which one it could be. Fix that pipe to the breather valve, see what happens, and if it st -

Hmm does sound like an air leak, but can't rule out other things. Just double check there are no other splits in any pipes.. could also be a faulty idle control valve.. is it an obd1 or obd2 lump in your car? -

When you say it revs up and down, do you mean it does it on idle? As in if you hold revs at 2k it'll hold fine, then when you let your foot off the accelerator, the revs drop but start hunting? -
I can't help with this, but just out of curiosity, what is the weight difference between the fibreglass and carbon? I would have thought the carbon would be heavier? I do a lot of work for Westfield sports cars, as I work on the same trading estate, and the carbon bonnets that a very few have had feel lighter than the fibreglass bonnets of the same size.

Possibly.. Lol can't guarantee, but if it's sucking air then it will throw fueling out. It's the simplest thing to start with. They do suffer with other problems such as leads, coil packs, air flow meters etc etc. I've never worked on a mk2 conversion, so not sure how you'd go about retrieving fault codes. There are a few people with conversions on here, so hopefully someone can help out. It's the simplest and easiest and cheapest thing to try, so just connect the 2 with a bit of pipe and see what happens. -

Ahhh thats probably why then haha Just put a new pipe from one to the other just remove the one that's been blocked off, and put a new pipe from there straight to that nipple on the top or the crankcase breather. -

Well if the purge valve isn't there, what does the pipe from the carbon canister go to? Also if the valve isn't connected it's not an issue, it is an issue however if you don't have it connected and it's plugged in. With my turbo, I left the purge valve connected, and just into the engine bay, when Stealth Racing remapped it, I was told if it was being left to vent to atmosphere, it needed to be unplugged. You will have a fault code for it but, it won't alter the fuelling for when it purges if you get me. If thats removed and disconnected then, just get a piece of pipe and put it from the inle -

I might have one in the garage.. I will have a look later. I removed it just because of the turbo being put on.. want me to try dig it out? Main dealers will get them too, or you could get a plastic t piece for like a boost gauge or something and some vacuum hose.. all stuff a local car shop would have. You could use a t piece from sceen washer pipes where it splits from 1 pipe into 2 for each nozzle -

russj249 replied to hawwy's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
That's everythin there yes, its a crank case breather valve, very common for splitting and making cars run terrible. As you look at it, you have the main breather.pipes, one end directly onto rocker cover, and the other end to the inlet manifold plastic bent pipe. The smaller vacuum lines, which there are 3 of, the middle one to the top of the crank case breather valve, the right to where yours has been blocked off with a rusty bolt, ans the left bit to the charcoal cannister purge valve on the left side of the engine bay by the airbox, it is a little blue valve with a 2 pin plug on. I havent -

The pipe should go from that nipple, to another little nipple on the inlet manifold, vacuum side of the throttle body. It also is a kind of t tiece, and should come from the carbon canister purge valve by the air box if i remember correct -
