Stretched tyres...... got any info?
kie_dub replied to kie_dub's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
So the tyres cant come off if you turn into the corners hard or anything like that? -
Right im in need of some new tyres for my tt comps, the ones that are on at the minute are 205/40/17, they look a little stretched but not enough. I like the look and stance of stretched tyres but want to know more. Does having stretched tyres decrease or affect the handling of the car? Is it safe? What size do you recon for the tt comps for a nice stretched look? Thanks guys and girls any advice is appriciated

Hard choice as there are good sides and bad sides to both but i say Digital, because i think they are more accurate as you know the exact pressure instead of a slightly rough idea. But the only downside is i wonder if you can see it when direct sunlight is shining on it... but for me its digital

Keeping the power down, and torque steer
kie_dub replied to supadupagt4's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
I think the simple answer really is that you cant stop a high powered car from wheel spinning and getting torque steer, but you can reduce it as the above posts say by fitting good tyres and lsd. But realisticly unless you fit 4wd to a car pushing over 300 bhp out you will always have alot of spin -
adjusting coilovers without the c spanner?
kie_dub replied to kie_dub's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering

adjusting coilovers without the c spanner?
kie_dub replied to kie_dub's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
yeah i have alot of trouble with not getting traction. Using tt comps (17s) some yokos on the back and some cheap ones up front. Was gunna change them round but the ones up front have more tread left and i think there wont be a tyre out there that can take 400+ bhp through 2 tyres -
i want me a squirrel mincer lol. Nah im not going to do it if its bad for my car. Just puzzles me that alot of people get this noise from there turbo'd cars and wanted to know how. That link for top gear the 'P2' sounds mad!! jeremey clarkson there with his bang on quotes lol
-
where does this chatter noise come from kev if it aint the external wastegate? I know alot of people think its chavy but i like it and im one of those people who does what they like with there motor lol ( and i dont mean i cover it with halfords mods i am very much into the scene and have been for years and love it!)
-
thanks xyber might try one of those as i think my dump valve isnt workin properly. And how can a noise from a turbo'd engine be 'chavy'? its like saying chavs have dump valves so there chavy :s
-
Thanks everyone, ill avoid it then, rather hear the sound of my turbo instead of it eating itself after a few hundred miles

Where is the convoy gonna meet? anyone planned that yet? -
Ive got a vrturbo its got an external wastegate on it, when i bought it i fwas told that when i disconnect the dump valve i would have a chatter instead of a plain old dump. Ive heard a few comments about this how it is bad on the turbo. But i hear a few cars flying around near where i live and hear their turbo'd engines chattering away. A mate of mine has a gsi turbo and he hasnt had a dump valve connected since he got it about 12 months ago and it doesnt seem to do his much harm. Just wanna know what all you guys think or know!! cheers
-
Can anybody help? i got my vrt with coilovers and didnt get the tool to adjust the suspension. Might sound daft to people on here but how do you adjust the ride height and the stiffness? Do you need to do it fron underneath or on top and is it possible without the c spanner. Im getting really bad understeer and want to find a good setup. Ive got H&R coilovers if this helps! Any help much appreciated guys

i have a vr6 turbo and it starts first time cold (but have to press accelerator). but my problem is that when its warmed up and generally been giving it some, i let it tick over for 2 minutes before i turn it off to let the turbo stop but when it comes to starting it again WITHIN say 20 mins it does not like to start.. i turn the ignition and its the sort of sound that you get when your trying to start a flooded car.... it does eventually start but its quite embarresing when your car only just starts or doesnt start at all! ANY IDEAS MUCH APPRECIATED ... thanks!!
-
You dont need to get a resistor or anything like that ive just changed mine, just disconnect the battery, take out the 2 small bolts out either side of the back of the steering wheel, then undo the big nut in the middle of the wheel and take the whole thing off. then simply line up the new one and put the big nut back on. connect the battery and turn ignition on and check horn, indictors and that indicators cancel... job done!!!

Wheel colour choice on blackberry VR6
kie_dub replied to Chris1's topic in Members Rides and Event Photos
Mate ur car is sexual! I think you sould keep them polished, not that much work keepin em shiny, i used autosol on my chrome wheels and did it once every 2 weeks to keep em shiny. If you deffo wanna paint em then what about paintin the face of them graphite grey and leavin the rest polished!!? just a suggestion, its different and i think it would look really nice. Btw ur car is immaculatly clean and shiny, what do you use and how often do you polish or whatever your car? -
kk might stick it on see wot it sounds like

Recently bought my vr6 and it has a cat-back milltek exhaust system fitted on it. The guy gave me a straight through pipe with the car that goes with the system. He said he changed it over and put the cat back on for the mot and hasn't changed it back over. Just wondering.... whats the pro's and con's to a straight through pipe and do you get any power gains or does it just make the car louder????

visable sparking on the engine
kie_dub replied to kie_dub's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Hurts like a biiiiaatcchh touching them leads whilst engine is running lol! My mate put insolation tape round the lead for a temporary fix, seems to be fine now. Went into DUbsport in wigan to see about those megnacore ht leads but he said the standard ones work just as well -
Just been reading this post and the past few nights driving home from work i have been having the same problem. But not as bad as yours. Mine seems to start fine and idle properly, then as i drive off out the car park i get into second then have to slow down again and put it back into first for a bad bend out the car park and it starts idling like crap and cuts out. then it takes about 10 seconds of turning the engine over before it starts, and when it does start it doesn't sound to clever. I also only bought the car last weekend and drove it 200 miles back home without fault. My mate has one
