  1. I'd be interested on thoughts on this too as I have also done the OBD2 conversion on my MK3. (OBD1 engine died and got a good deal on an OBD2 + loom). When running, your aux water pump won't make a difference nor will the fan coming on, as at road speeds the airflow through the rad will cool enough without need for fans. What is your water temp when driving? I wonder if there is an issue with the dash readout? I run mine as a track car so when used its at high revs constantly. Last week at Snetterton in 22deg C ambient I saw 142 degC oil temps! This is with two oil coolers and some oother coo
  2. Tony' date=' you can use polo rear brake spacers from VW on the nhub to stub axle to give you 9.5mm without affecting the wheel bolt length. Have a look on mine/Nige's build threads on Northloop. [img']http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Golf/IMG_4942.jpg Just read through, great work. How did you do the sunroof plate? my build thread
  3. Odd request, anybody know what the resistance out from the engine oil temp sender is at different oil temps? Not sure if mine is reading accurately. Be good to know ohm range say from 50degC uo to 140 deg C in 10/20 increments. Ian
  4. Thanks Tony. Any good? (from the first page of the thread) Ian
  5. [blockquote]March 2011 Not a lot has happened since last November with the engine swap. Following a VR6 track car thread on the VR6OC who also had high under bonnet temps decided to help with some venting. He went with vents at the rear as believed that would draw the heat out. Actually this is wrong as the rear of the bonnet is in a low pressure zone and the air stalls. Better to go for the front. Often some projects raise the back of the bonnet to help but this will slowly draw air into the back of the engine adding to the heating as it traps the hot air. By having the holes at the front of
  6. [blockquote]Updated Oct 31st 2010 Car ran really well yesterday :veryhappy: No issues with the engine all day long which was a huge relief! Didn't seem to burn much if any oil all day. Got loads of laps in and hardly spent any time off the track, which was fantastic Can't wait to drive it again :thumb: Thanks to Sim for the supply of the engine and Gary (GVK Motorsports) for the swapping of the engines over. No made easy as it was originally an OBD1, so needed to have the full loom also swapped over and the ECU de-immobilised. Oil temps seemed better but it wasn't the hottest of days. See
  7. [blockquote]Update - Oct 2010 Oct 5th The car died last night. Newly sourced DR 268 cam sheared the keyway. New engine sourced. Hopefully will be in before next TD on 30th Oct. Oct 25th. Car collected last night from GVK :thumb: OBD2 engine fitted along with remapped ECU - originally OBD1. Coldest night so far and the electric window wouldn't work again so had to drive home with the drivers side down - frozen by the time i got back after a 110 mile drive! Got a few issues to sort but the car drove well all the way home. Seems quieter and a bit smoother than before. Throttle response is good
  8. [blockquote]update 2010 Been looking out for a VR6 Corrado inlet manifold as they are a different design and meant to improve things a little. Unfortunately because people know this they sell for some silly prices most of the time. Anyway last week someone put one up for sale and a very reasonable price so I treated myself. Took the original off today. You can see the difference in the air intake. Original on the left with a restriction, Corrado on the right with unrestricted intake. Also wrapped the exhaust manifold to help with under bonnet temps. Currently drying in the airing cupboard be
  9. [blockquote]Updated from July 2010 Reason for the coolant leak... Thermostat housing gasket not seating properly as the inner side wall has deteriorated (highlighted by the yellow ring), fell apart as I took it out leaving it like this... Put the replacement one in from GSF tonight and the bloody thing leaks from a different point now so going to have to take the part off and put some gasket sealant on to help the old seal. not a big job but a big PITA. Next was to get the original pax seat out and replaced by a bucket one. Then mount both the seats fixed on bars to help with dropping the h
  10. Update from June 2009 Gearbox was removed a few weeks ago using a very comprehensive guide on the VR6 OC (Many thanks Tony :thumb: ) Gearbox removal on VR6OC (have to be a premium member to view!!) My car with clutch off Flywheel was done by Martin Emment off ClugGTi Returned it in a week and was very reasonable compared to buying one! Contact him on ClubGTi if you want one doing :thumb: Sent it away weighing 8kg, returned with it weighing 5.5kg, pretty good result I think. The flywheel and clutch were refitted on Weds night with new flywheel bolts. Last night I refitted the gearbox wit
  11. Update from March 2010 [blockquote]Continued with the radiator swap... Front off the Black car Rad etc off Rad removed This is the coolant from the Black car.... think it needs a flush. This is the front bumper which I think will have some holes cut in them soon, but not before Rocky, for added air flow to the Rad. Rads swapped over. Front panel put back together. Oil pipes re directed to the cooler. Oil filter replaced and oil change done. Everything bolted back up on the front panel. Head lights put back. Coolant topped up. Engine started!!!!!! Test run to ensure all OK and it was :th
  12. Put mine here Swapped from another type, but position for the pin was the same (old pic)
  13. Hi Paul sorry to mess you about but someone i know on another forum has sorted one out for me but only just got the message.
  14. Hi Paul, thats great, Just a quick check before going ahead, what year is it from as mine is '94 but with an OBD2 engine swap. I presume they are all the same from '93 to '97. I know I had an issue with the lamda before. Does it come with the lamda still attached? Have you got a pic of the cat at all? Many thanks for your help. Ian
  15. Going to try a different testing station to see but they are getting stricter about catalysts. Paul, how much for the Cat? and how much delivered via say parcel monkey for e.g.?
  16. My track car is due for its MOT in the next few weeks and I normally get PSI in Stoke to send it to their place for it as they understand modified cars. Called in today to discuss a few things and they informed me that the MOT station now won't pass de-catted cars. As my car is de-catted it will automatically fail. So, has anyone either got a VR6 cat that I could borrow for the MOT test in the Staffordshire area in the next 10 days ( I would collect and return following the MOT test, or got a cat for sale?
  17. Thanks, as I'm now confused.... Can I check, is that the nut size or the thread size? All the unions I've seen on ebay for eg are M10, are they the ones I need? If not where do I get M11 threaded ones?
  18. I'm about to remove the ABS from my MK3 VR6 track car and put in a F/R bias valve in to cure the rear lock up from coilovers. Going to replace the complete brake lines and need new unions. What are the brake union sizes I need to get? I belive they are 11mm, where the MK2's are 10mm. Anybody help or even done this?
  19. The switch on the door won't work at all now but will operate on the key in the drivers lock. Lock and the window can be closed as per normal and same for the unlock/open window. Guess there is a missing connection for the switch to the fuse panel somewhere but can't find it.
  20. Thanks for the help. Found the wires on the dash loom with different plugs. Cut the OBD plug off and reconnected the wires and..... yey I have indicator dash warning lights again and hopefully a working mpg display. Not driven it yet as doing some other jobs. Now all I need to do is sort out the electric windows that dont work on the door switch but do work on the key in the door lock?????
  21. Thanks for that, would have been searching forever LOL
