First off was to finish off the roll cage mounting plates by pre drilling them, I have a lovely little bench drill that made the job very easy. I have a nice lubrication mix that protects my bits tongue.gif steering fluid and water in a spray bottle, stops the drill bit from getting to hot and sticking My plates all neatly done.   4. OK, just a bit more... Steering [/b ] As precaution we changed the parts as listed in the first post. This was another of my jobs while Steph rebuild the engine. In the process of stripping it down we found a split inner drive shaft boot angry.gif This meant removing the drive shaft from the gearbox, how difficult could that be blink.gif Well actual its a PITA!! The six bolts holding it on are very difficult to get to unless you have an access pit / ramps. After playing around under the car for ages we worked as a team with a very long bar and removed them.   5. Thought I would post my project on here as I have just signed up for premium membership. Hopefully it may be of interest to others on here. I started it back in Oct 2007.   6. Car has been stripped extensively and battery relocated to the rear. Been a track car for 2 years now on Gaz adustable struts and koni springs. Time for new suspension. Ian
  7. What spring rates have people used on their VR6 cars for track use? Referring to coilovers, and want to know Fr/Rr rates please as about to upgrade from struts and springs running around 220lbs on the Fr ATM I think. Ian
  8. Hi, been reading about this on some other vag forums. The threads I've read have been for skodas etc but as the steering racks are vag it should be possible? What they did was to use a TT/S3./ Mk4 R32 as they are the faster racks. Has anyone done this on a Mk3 VR6? Is there a write up on it as can't seem to find one? Ian

  11. Hi, Been having a few issues which I am sure are all connected but not sure what to do to resolve them. 1.) Car just passed the MOT but with a an advisory that the front brakes were not braking with an even balance. This was picked up before on previous MOT. Upgraded the 280mm to 288mm setup. Replaced all the seals on the calipers and full flush. Still got the advisory on the re-test but it passed this time. 2.) Car is used for track use. Noticed tht when braking hard the wheels seem to lock up at different times or each wheel, even though on flat same grip surface with even tread identical ty
  12. Hi, I'm totaly stuck i can't open my drivers side door (3 door) from the inside or outside. The pin moves up and down but the handles feel as though the door is still locked any ideas please? Outside handle and inside door release won't open the door. Spent ages today trying to figure it out to no avail. Any advice and or pictures on how to get it open? Ian

  14. This OK as the guy can supply the VR6 specific sender --> Oil sender VR6 Can't find one on the GSF website or the Europarts. Ian
  15. Driving the car up for its MOT the other day and the oil temp on the DIS started to drop then went to the "----" reading i.e. under 50degs. Just got the car back from the MOT, with a pass!! So, need to sort out the oil temp issue. I am guessing it is the oil temp sender has failed so a few questions... How can I check - buy a new one and fit it, wire lose? Where do I get one - VW, GSF, ebay etc? Other reasons for non reading, all other DIS readings work, mpg etc? All and any help gratefully received, Ian

  18. Not sure if this the best place to post but... Will an exhaust for a Mark 3 GTi 8v / 16v fit the VR6. Need a new one for my VR6 and have found an upgrade on the standard one. In the advert it says it fits the 8v, 16v and VR6, is this likely to be true??? Help please. Ian
