  1. Make sure you use an exhaust sleeve as my decat pipe didn't fit over the st.st exhaust !! whoops I had to get one made from some bloke off ebay in the end. you can get spiral wound sleeves from exhaust suppliers though measure the OD of the exhaust first as they are all different as I found out!! always fit new u bolts as well and plaster it with copperslip remember you'll need to take it off every MOT time also. Don't ever get any oil etc near the Lamda sensor and don't twist it or you'll reck the cable. disconnect it at the back of the engine first. good luck
  2. Hi When I corner fairly hard theres a clunking noise from the front left. I've checked the wheels and drive shafts annoyingly it doesn't do it all the time. When I'm listing for it, it doesn't do it the swine. Then cluck clunk clunk like the calipers hitting the wheel, all though it's not. I've had the garage checkl it out but they drew a blank as well. I'm running 16" Mk4 wheels on my VR. I dont think that should affect it. I've never had a inner CV joint problem may be it could be the drive shaft slipping about any ideas??? , thanks.
  3. Hi Normally the oil pressure switches are 1/8" BSP taper thread don't use Parallel as it will leak. Always use either loc-tite thread seal or PTFE thread tape as well or it will leak. FYI to correctly fit thread tape hold the fitting in your left hand then travell around the switch thread clockwise with your right. This will ensure the tape seals when you tighten it!! without the tape falling off 1.5 times should do it PS if you have use parallel thread you have to use a special 1/8" BSP gauge fitting with washer.
  4. Check your air filter sounds like it's not getting enough air flow to me. Could be a leak on the inlet side after the MAF this will also cause a smilar problem.
  5. Hi I was working on my VR6 at the weekend. When I took out the ABS tray and looked under the carpets there were these 2 plastic tray thingys filled with sand they are made from grey platic and weigh quit a bit why are they there?? Also iv'e got water coming into the foot well again!! i think it must be the dreaded sun roof drain again. What would happen if I plugged the sunroof drain ? They are a pain in the back side. I've cleaned the drain loads of times. Any clues ?? Updated with image I hope !
  6. Hi Have you tried cleaning your old old has it def gone? They are so easy to damage especially from the scrappy. The worst is if they ever get wet the hot resistor over heats or something. Try cleaning your old one with contact cleaner from maplin. I assume they all have different resistances this gives the ecu the correct mass of air flow through the inlet manifold. If this isn't the same then you're screwed. I'd ask them to check the resistance and temp if poss then try compare with yours. One resitance will be be fixed as reference the other will alter with the air flow. Good luck.
  7. Hi Looking at this fuel business, what's the most mpg you can get froma VR6 I've had about 30 ish. So in theory the only way to get better MPG is to make the car as light as humanly possble ie strip the inside out, then replace the glass with perspex, fit skinny wheels and tyres, fibre glass panels , fit tiny battery, then remap the ecu to maximum mpg etc I wonder if you could get at least 35+ !! Now all we need is someone to try it would make a good article! Oh yes and put helium in your tyres too. It going to cheaper running your car on white spirit soon!! I'm off to B&Q
  8. Use a screw driver you can do it I did it once on a Mk3. First pull off the top grill trim to get a look at it the trim is just pushed in at the top and has retaining tangs under the 2 front lights. You'll need a nail file to push this under to push down the tangs and it should all come off. Then you can get to the bonnet catch assembly. Use a scredriver to lever the catch arm over.
  9. Hi I bet you its the stupid to rubber things on the top of the susp at front mine squeeks as well as they don't seat correctly plus VR6s hate road humps ! All Vws Iv'e had do this annoying thing. It must be the way the top rubber mount seat. The ony way I stopped it was to vaseline the the sods or none oil white grease. Hope this helps. I think its where the steering twists very slightly and rubs on the internal cone thingy.
  10. Try checking the fuel filter connections are tight mine leaked from the fuel filter outlet !! ( Back of car RHt side) and I did it only when it was warm and parked up hense next day tank was down, tighten the jubilee clips up or replace them, cheers
  11. Hi It sounds like either the water system isnt pressurising correctly or lack of flow? Water at high pressure + heat = water + vapour . If the pressure/flow isn't being maintained then the water pump will cavitate hense bubbles in your coolant, See cavitaion on wiki!. This could be low flow to the pump. So it could be that the pump impeller is shot or has something wrapped around etc it or the water is not at the correct inlet pressure. Just because the pump goes around does mean its working correctly!! Take it off and clean it and look at the impeller this will be damaged if cavitaion has ha
  12. Hi there's a web site someones put together to give you an idea of what tyres do what. The bottom line was the bigger the wheel/tyre diameter the worse the accelleration will be plus the speedo will read wrongly see the KOUKI TECH web site it tells you how much the speedo will be out also.
  13. Hi I've just bought some W rated 205's form Formula 1 motor centers, cheapest by far. I'm running 16" rims with 8mm spacers on the rear. They work a treat cost with tracking for 4 tyres was 205 of your pounds bargan or wot. From F1 crawley and others PS F1 did the best tracking job ever for 25 quid amazing value.
  14. Can anyone tell me a good reason as to why I can't run my VR6 with a 904 coil ie a cheap VW polo coil costing 34 quid as opposed to a 100 pound VR6 coil. I've replace my VR6 coil after it failed and touchwood the polo coil works better cost 10 pounds from the scrappo. I've run it like this for over a year now and I have 2 spares 904's just incase! Wonder if there are other polo parts that could be used!! Yes I know the bolts don't fit !!
  15. Try checking the oil pressure, Not sure about what model you have but mine has 2 oil pressure switches 1 low 1 high. The low 1 cuts the engine if no oil is present on start up this maight be faulty - they cost about 6 quid , make sure you get the right colour though !! as this dictates the range blue = 30 psi etc. Normally the diaphragms go cause theyr'e in a stupid place !! and the housing corrodes through.
