  1. I'm just putting up a quick message to let you all know that this project will still be going ahead but it's on hold until further notice. Andy, who will be making the parts, has another priority at the minute. His wife was in a bad RTA and some drunken asshole in a 25tonne fast track ran over her car after blazing through a junction. We're wishing Andy all the best and hoping she recovers fully as she sustained multiple injuries. Baz
  2. if it's MPG you're after I'd suggest having a TDI for daily driving. Modding a VR6 for performance just might notch your fuel bills up a 'little' bit. Ultimately MPG will still depend on how you drive it. Baz
  3. it's a lot of cash for the inlets. I'm going with a corrado 2.9 mani and a powergasket plus and a custom made heatshield we'll be working on soon. I just can't get my head round to justify the price of the shimmel, EIP and shrick manis. Baz
  4. I'll be sending him measurements tomorrow for the spacer plate and he's going to knock up a couple of test pieces. If anyone can tell me how much space we have between the manifold and rocker cover it'd be great. Cheers Baz
  5. The guy who will be helping us on this one is in south west wales. I'd like to get a couple of test cars and when we work out dimensions and thickness of Carbon and stuff like that we'll get a prototype ready and send a couple of you down. It would be preferable to know your exact bhp as well as it'd be interesting to dyno it for proof if we think it works. Baz
  6. I'm also talking to him about the possibility of a CF spacer that sticks in between the mani and rocker cover. This way it'd be cheaper and easier to make and we're going to do a little testing and may need a couple of volunteers to have a spacer set in and a temp sensor put on the manifold. Theoretically we should see a pretty big drop in temp but ideally would like to test it against heat mat. Baz
  7. This is just a thought at the minute as I have a contact who 'may' be able to make CF rocker covers. I was wondering if this would reduce or eliminate the heat rising into the manifold. If any of you would be interested in maybe a prototype or even have some info to add please do. Baz
  8. i have a set sitting in the house. Check out the vortex. They've got great reports. I ordered them from a special offer on MJM autohaus. Baz
  9. Wow there, looks liek we have a newbie!!! only joking. 6 branch exhaust manifold rado tb - Corrado Throttle body vortech are a company who make superchargers You'll really need to search around for vr6 specialists. MJM Autohaus and ecs tuning in america are pretty good and have a great selection of vr6 parts. Good luck with it and I hope you have a healthy bank balance because typically VR6 power isn't cheap. Baz
  10. I had a bit of a thought today about carbon fibre. Isn't it completely heat proof? My thought was to contact a friend of mine from another forum who has the gear to make carbon fibre parts and is already doing engine covers and stuff for other cars. Would there be any benefit to using a carbon fibre rocker cover? I wouldn't mind paying a few quid if it eliminated the heat coming up through the manifold. Any thoughts? Should I ask him how much it would cost to make one? Baz
  11. Has the original posted said whether it's a 12V or 24v? And we only get a 24V Bora here. Baz
  12. The R32 box bolts straight to a VR6 as the 6 clylinder blocks are the same. But a 6 cylinder box won't go onto a 4 cylinder engine and vice versa. There's you answer Baz
  13. There were a very limited number of right hand drive synchros sent to the UK but good luck finding them. I think there was only 40 or something. And just back to the original question. When VW made the 6 cylinder MK4 engine they just changed the name from VR6 to V6. It's still the same VR principal so technically calling the V6 4 motion a VR6 is more accurate than calling it a V6. Our MK4 V6 24V engines are the exact same VR6 engines (only not 4WD) as the MK4 GTI VR6 sold in america and germany. And the Bora/Jetta of course came in a FWD 24V VR6 over there as well. Baz
  14. not quite as good in tests compared with the BMC and i have a thing about buying anything from awesome as by the time they tag on a stupid P+P price that they're always more expensive than everywhere else. Baz
  15. Do R32 cams fit your engine because I have a set sitting here? Baz
  16. I got mine on ebay for about £85 - total bargain. I just got it and dismantled it and hoovered it out and it's as good as new. Baz
  17. Just a thought guys - as soon as this is worked out would it be possible to orgasnise a group buy. It would be nice to get some answers from MSD as they should know the best setup with their own products. It'd be great to have a group buy for the whole kit. Mainly as everything could be ordered in one go and save people chasing up different components. I reckon there could be a fair bit of interest too. Baz
  18. I think I'll give it a miss then, unless I get one for free. I can feel a water cooling experiment coming on...lol. Baz
  19. Cheers Dave - I know what you mean about the aerofoil and turbulance properties. My intention is at some stage to go to 2.9 but for now I'll just have a nice polished 2.9 manifold (only on the outside for looks though). When I do my engine rebuild I'll just be honing the cylinders unless there's any problems or major wear. If there is, i'll be going to 2.9 to kill 2 birds with one stone. I think I can even get a 2.9 block complete so that might even save some cash. The guy who will be doing my remap is VERY good as well and he'll be sorting out a nice smooth power curve and combined with
  20. My last load of stuff from gruven came with 0 duty. Even if you do get stung for duty on the bracket and coils, it'll only be about £20. Baz
  21. If you need them in a panic, get Paul (A2T) from Gruven to send you over MSD coils and the bracket from the US. The bracket is $74 and his shipping is well fast and pretty cheap too. Baz
  22. Sorry about digging up old threads but i'm still looking for answers. Would it help if I used the powerplus gasket with that heatsoak material from demon tweeks? I'm just trying to think of ways to keep the intake cool. Baz
  23. Has anyone tried mounting the MSD bracket from GRUVEN PARTS? I'm considering it. Baz
  24. I managed to snipe a 2.9 manifold on ebay for under £60. I'm in the process of polishing it at the minute and i'm seriously considering making a polishing attachment for the drill and doing the insides of the runners. Has anyone tried an inside and out poilsh?? What about getting it completely chromed smooth? It's bound to increase airflow. Baz Baz
