  1. All the sensors are fine. I think it is to do with the flow imbalance on the intake. Ill speak to Len the guy that done the head tomorrow and see what he reckons.
  2. Good and bad mate, check the new thread for more info - http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?156129
  3. Right, I just forked out £325 for a custom re-map yesterday after extensive head work and cams etc. The car was make good power 215bhp before the map and then 230bhp 200 lb ft of torque after ! The thing that concerns me is that it was cutting out rather a lot before the map, nearly every junction! When I got it to Stealth, Vince was puzzled that he couldn't sort out the stalling problem as simply as other VRs with the same problem ! All sensors are fine and a lot have been replaced due to the cutting out including fuel pump and reg. Vince was able to make changes to the map to help the probl
  4. I actually carried out all the engine work myself as it goes, so Im sure the timing is correct ! I have carried out quite a few mods : 264 cams, re pro TB, port matched and flowed inlet mani, gasket matched exhaust manis, gas flowed head ,mk4 head gasket, BMC CDA, alloy flywheel, sytec fuel pump and low temp stat and switch. This is why I feel its ready for a remap! I am probably going to fit a s/s exhaust and high flow cat at some stage and vince said it would be fine as he gives the map extra percentage of fuelling for say further mods. Im thinking the problem could be down to the FPR, which
  5. Right some of you will know that Ive had lumpy idle and cutting out problem for f-ing ages now, and it really puzzles me what the problem is! On the up side its booked into Stealth on Friday for a remap, that's if its possible to remap ! Just a question, why would taking the vac hose off the fpr stop it from stalling ! When it cuts out it does just dies, the revs drop quite fast then the ignition lights come on. This is happening regular, but taking the vac hose of the reg seems to stop it stalling, but you can see sometimes the revs dropping faster than it would normally, as though it would
  6. After fitting my new pump from gsf today thinking it was going to cure all my problems Ive been having, lumpy idle and cutting out etc. Its actually made the cutting out even worse and seemed to cut out at every junction now! It does feel smoother now though, and seems to have more poke up the rev range, which is good! After driving around getting very annoyed, I pulled over and pulled the vac hose off the fuel reg, which I have done before, then run the car. It didnt cut out once, and the idle dropped down nicely! Why is this happening ? Is it that the reg is fecked ?

  8. I was just wondering what the voltage should be measured at the pump whilst running at idle? I got 13.5 v
  9. It was definity up to temp. Ive just had a £900 gas flowed head rebuild, fitted with new lifters! I was wondering if it was linked to idle and cutting out problem. It reads no faults on vag com, but the injector on time it 3.90 to 4.10!
  10. Does yours cut out and have lumpy idle?
  11. I was just wondering about something that has happen a few times when giving my car some welly. At high revs in second suddenly there seems to be no life from the engine, either not firing due to no spark or fuel! It sort of feels a bit like the clutch slipping, but you would smell it, or the wheels spinning, but you would hear and feel it. I was just wondering if this is linking to my lumpy idle and stalling?
  12. Can anyone tell me should you empty new hydraulic followers before fitting higher lift cams, or is that just for really high profiles ? When I got mine out the bag at the weekend they had turned over and leaked some oil. I was worried about whether or not I should fill them buy putting them in a tray of oil ? Then I read in a DIY 16v head rebuild in Golf+, and they emptied there new tappets out so not to get any artificial lift. They were fitting 270s. Ive just plonked them in as they were, should I be worried about anything?
  13. Right Ive ordered a set off exhaust valves o.e. I spoke to the guy today and he has managed to bore out the old guides to fit these liners - http://www.cylinderheadshop.co.uk/K-line.html So the jobs costing me £907 plus the price of the valves. If you think about it, its £480 for the flow work and the rest of the work needed to be done anyway! When I told him my concern of the flow cost he assured me that it would be to a higher standard than other places that would just clean the ports out and slap a gas flowed badge on it! He is also carrying out more flow work to the lower inlet mani t
  14. I phoned VW today and the exhaust valves are only £20.49 inc, so that's not bad at all. And with my Dad working at Audi I get genuine parts discounted which is even better! I'm just a bit concerned with how much he is charging me for the work! £ 476 ) For a rebuild with all new valve liners, five angled inlet and three angled exhaust. £608 ) As above but with new special guides if the old ones cant be bored. £480 ) The flow work to the lower inlet mani and head.
  15. Right Ive just spoken to the fella doing my head rebuild and he says that two of my exhaust valves have stem wear. He said that they aren't to bad and could compensate with the appropriate guide liner. He also told how much it was going to cost me, a grand basically! But I believe he is going to do a very good flow job, well it wants to be for that sort of money! He told me that new exhaust valves are £100 or something silly because there sodium filled! I was a bit concerned about spending this sort of money and not replacing the exhaust valves for them to burn out after a few thousand mile
  16. Just a quick one. Do I use standard torques for the bolts?
  17. Ive probably done about 2000.
  18. So I may of damaged the lobes if anything at all?
  19. I fitted new cams and lifters to a old head if that matters?
  20. Ive just read an article on installing cams on the Puma Racing website, and it says that when you start the car you should not let it idle and keep the revs up. I'm just wondering If I may of caused my head damage due to not carrying out a bedding in procedure? Does it really affect things that much if you don't carry out the bedding in process? Reading this has concerned me a bit! http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/cam1.htm
  21. Right Ive stripped the head and found a burnt inlet valve seat on number 5! The valve didnt look that bad but Ill find out for sure when its inspected and rebuilt. Does anyone think that it might no be able to be re-seated as I know the seats cant be replaced on these heads? Didnt really come across any problems when stripping apart from Im going to need a new cam sprocket bolt and coil pack bolts, along with the gaskets and seals etc. Im probably going to go for new bronze stems, exhaust valves, multi angled seats and port polish/gas flow. He has asked me to send the lower inlet mani for p
  22. Im getting a stage one head done at a place called the Cylinder Head Shop.Check his web site out it quite impressed me! The only trouble is he has moved over to southern Ireland now. He gets ANC to pick your head up and take it to Swansea where he collects it, carrys out the work and sends it back over from Ireland. I know it sounds like a lot of messing around but I think itll be worth it. Im going to spend about £500-£600 and that he said would get me a very good stage one with 5 angled inlets ,3 angled exhaust, port polish and bronze stem liners! He only comes over to England every 10 day
  23. Yes Ive just found out from phat vr6. It increases the comp to 10:5:1 from 10:1. Heres the part number if anyones interested : 021 103 383 N
