  1. It is mate, if it's there it's got to work! Plus I've just put a new blade in it, and the replacement wiper motor will be free anyway.
  2. The water in the oil is coolent. We can't tell the extent of the damage without taking the head of the old engine, but valves 5 and 6 are bent, there was a load of metal swarf in the inlet manifold, and we've spent ages cleaning out the inlet tract as it was covered in oil. The CAT was also covered in oil, it's spent a while burning that out too. Just hope it gets through an emmissions test, we're worried it might need a new CAT. Basically the head gasget went, but we bought it in this state so we're not sure how it happened. All we can tell is that it went suddenly, as it came with a note
  3. Engine pic - it's looking pretty good now. Got some polishing to do on that manifold though!
  4. Such a transformation!! I need to get me some Megs 83 for my porter cable, my Sonus stuff just can't cut VAG paint! Looks top mate.
  5. Cheers for all your comments guys! Unfortunately, I decided to cancel the MOT - the car wasn't quite ready, and we would have been rushed off our feet to get it there. It turns out the additional water pump had seized, so we had to swap that, plus the rear wiper motor doesn't work - but we don't have a spare. But I am happy, it's all together and running well. The plugs and leads and throttle body alignment seem to have sorted the running issues we had - no faults in VAG-COM Going to re-book the MOT for next weekend - then I can tax it for next month - seems a bit silly taxing it now! Just t
  6. Anyone tried the Goodyear Hydragrips? They're supposed to be great in the wet. We run Eagle NCT5's on the mk4 - never had a problem with them in the wet, but they're not up to the F1's. Got them on the mk2, and they're going to be fitted asap to the VR. Toyo Proxes are nothing compared to F1's.
  7. I'm not missing them, they're just not on the car yet! Wheels need to come of so I can clean all the arches out before it's driven. Well it's running, but it does seem to have some sort of misfire - got new plugs and leads on order, so hopefully that'll sort it. We're going to remove the spare caliper carrier from the spare beam tonight, and get the interior back together. Then fit the rear brakes and blead them and the clutch tomorrow. Saturday morning is cleaning time - ready for the MOT in the afternoon.
  8. Just a quick update with some pics. Things are coming together, albeit slowly. Engine about to go in the car It's actually cleaned up really well. In the car! Massive thanks to Phil (HiPurVR6) for the manifold, I will finish off the polishing as soon as I can Quick shot the interior, pretty much back together again. Full of stuff to go on the car! The rear caliper carrier bolt has been rounded off, we struggled for a while to remove it, and gave up. It's going to be angle grinded off tomorrow night, luckily we have a spare carrier and bolts from the mk2. New front discs and pads, w
  9. One of the fastest Golf's in the UK? yeah OK!
  10. Cheers guys! Work has been slow over the past week due to things getting in the way. But we're getting there. New front discs and pads are on, with silver calipers. The rear discs have new bearings ready to be fitted today/tomorrow. Engine is pretty much complete now, everything is on apart from inlet manifold and gearbox. It's got new gasgets and bolts, and a new clutch. Fingers crossed the engine will be going in today! Pics later.
  11. Unother unhappy Miltek customer here. This was on my old car, I ended up having it removed, selling it on and having a custom made exhaust fitted. If anyone around the Bristol area want's an exhaust, I would recommend Infinity Exhausts in Yate - they only use top grade stainless, and their build quality is superb. My VR's booked in for one in a couple of weeks time.
  12. Well I picked up my parts order from VW today (impressed, as their computer system went down whilst I was ordering yesterday, and they took all the details on paper!) along with the GSF parts I picked up yesterday - I think I have everything I need to get it on the road. Got discs and pads all the way round - going to give the calipers a quick lick of silver paint. I also have the clips to get my door strip things back on. Plus new gasgets for the engine, so the exhaust and inlet manifolds can go back on. Still waiting on the A/C rad and an A/C pipe though :-(
  13. Tinted windows are not (yet) part of an MOT test. My old car passed with tints a few weeks ago.
  14. Cheers Warren. I'll get some more pics up tonight! Can't wait to get it running!
  15. I want a short shift for my VR, got one on the 1.8T and it's fantastic!
  16. LMAO - I knew it had most of the coolent in the sump, but was quite suprised at the way it came out!
  17. I thought I'd get some pics up of my VR6, I bought it a couple of months back cheap, as it has a seized engine - but had to sell my old car on to pay for the needed parts so it's been sat waiting for a while. It's a 96 P, straight black VR - needs a bit of work here and there, but it seems to be a solid car. The first change came with a set of Highline wheels, the standard BBS were fubard - kerbed, corroded and filthy, the Highline wheels are mint, just need a set of decent rubber and new badges. The next change comes with bespoke fitting aircon, I bought all the parts, just need to get it all
  18. I wouldn't, 45's are more expensive plus it'll put your speedo out.
  19. Standard cars sell better, I've just stuggled to get rid of a modified car, and have vowed this time to keep any original parts so it can be put back to standard. They won't rot away, well the tyres might, but not the wheels.
  20. Hmm, well if I do get one I think I'll take it off and clean the air flow meter regulary. It would be a panel filter anyway, so vibration shouldn't be a problem.
