    dont forget new rubber o rings! if its the original housing when you take it apart inspect were the housing meets the side of the engine block as this is a prone place the housing breaks down,there also a funny square shape rubber seal that will prob need replacing to.

    no mate a lot of wasted money told me what side had gone,all inner and outers had no play in them at all so i was told it was the drivers side outer making the sound,replaced that and it was still the same,then i was told it was the passenger side inner and again changed that one but still the same,then changed the drivers side inner as the sound was getting louder buy now and i was sure it was drivers side as the sound was alot fainter when listening from passenger side and at last on tuesday i was driving home without that bloody clicking sound,the gaiter was unmaked no tears or lose of grea

    oh yeh you can hear it from inside the car no probs but only when the window was down,my problem was working out what side or inner or outer was clicking,wasnt easy as it was only clicking on right turns,never made a sound on left turns or in a straight line,never made a sound on a ramp only when driving and under load.jay

    vrvirgin mate yours sounds like a noisey waterpump i had mine changed last month and all simptoms was the same as yours,the sound is lound enough but is hard to explain but check to see if the belt is wobbling on idle and if there any play in the waterpump pully? ni-golf get that belt changed asap as from your photo that belt looks pretty cracked and you dont want that breaking on you while on your 100 mile trip, jay

    sh*i mate,that could of been alot worse,ive just had my inner cv drivers side done on tuesday but had been driveing it for approx 3 months without a problem apart from the clicking,i feel very lucky after haering your story,maybe i should of done the lottery tonight? jay

    im fed up with sitting in main dealers for 40 mins at a time looking at a parts guy scratch his head,i see loads of members are using it and wondered were i could get it from or if i could buy a copy of a member, thanks jason

    serpentine belt is on the left had side of your engine its not under any covers so you should see it no probs,runs the alternator,waterpump,etc.ribbed if you got air con and flat without aircon i believe?

    adam mate,ive had my steering wheel and air bag removed without disconecting the battery,not sure it thats right but didnt have any bad effects,just make sure you dont turn ignition on while the airbag is removed or youll have you airbag light staying on all the time!

    ist to the left hand side of the ashtray,remove the ashtray then there will ba a panel to the left that sides across from the left to the right just above the lighter,

    adrian,ive still got the standard vw alarm fitted on mine,i havnt had any probs with mine,still good alarms but insurance companys dont class these as cat 1 alarms any more as there a bit dated,when thay were fitted 95 - 98 as new there were cat 1.made by scorpion i think? jason

    did my sump gasket a little while back,yes it is a cork gasket and also the oil cooler seal at the front of the engine are prone to leaking i did that as well oil runs down from there on to the sump giving the impresion the sump gasket is leaking.

    if its got an alarm fitted try and disconect that for a bit and see if it still does it?alot of bad viring on a alarm can cause allsorts of probs. jason
