after pulling out from work yesterday and getting about 200 metres down the road i hear a bang and lost my power stearing so i pulled over to take a look. my aux belt tensioner had fallen to peices and the wheel had dissapeared down the road, luckily i wasnt moving to fast as i was coming up to a roundabout and the belt had just slipped off and doesnt appear to have been damaged. the belt was replaced about 6 months ago. as it was abank holiday i couldnt get hold of anywhere to buy a new belt tensioner so ill get hold of one today but im just wondering about the routing of the belt itself as

hi there just hoping someone else can help me with this ongoing problem ive had with my drivers side window on my golf for the best part of a year now! originally the cable snapped and i had the regulater/motor replaced but this didnt work properly, it made a kind of scraping noise on the way down but wouldnt go back up. the noise was quite worrying but the fact it wouldnt go back up annoyed me more as the scraping noise wasnt leaving any damage to the glass. ive had a fiddle about with it and the window comes down but WILL come back up when i use the alarm just not when i use the switch , wh

hi guys, i finally found time to fit a new window regulator on the drivers side door as the cable snapped on the old one. however i have a slight problem. the electric window works fine but when it goes up and down there is a horrible grating noise coming from somewhere. i spoke to a friend and he said he had a similar problem when fitting one on an mr2 and sorted it by slightly loosing the bolts that hold it in. now im gonna give that a try when time alows but has any1 else had similar problems when fitting a new window regulator. the part i fitted was bought from german and sweedish.

ok just had a look while i got some free time at work about how im gonna take off my drivers side door card but as its 3 am and dark outside i cant see any obvios way of doin this unlike my previous cars. the reason i need to get the door card off is because when i got to the car park barrier at work i started to lower my window when i heard a crack , the window went down but now it wont go back altho i can hear the motor working, so i had to raise the window using my hands but its not being held in place by anything. so can anyone plaz tell me how i can get the bloody door card off plz? thank

Does removing the cat make much difference.
stevietots1 replied to DommyVR6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
well last year when i had my 92/93 xr3i that didnt have a cat on it but it was meant to they just put it in the comnputer as a 92 j and it gave to options to test it with or without so i didnt have any hassle -
after over two weeks in the garage for major engine work i finally have my vr back and boy am i pleased !amazed i had the works done it, timing chain all guides tensioners tappets the lot and now its so much quieter than b4 its almost silent but they tell me it will be even quieter once all the bits get a few miles on them. its running so much smoother now and its actually idleing properly!! im gonna find out how much the dent in my wallet will be tomorrow but as its the garage where my brother works im not to concerned they gave me a rough figure of about 700-800 pound. i what i cant believe

i opted for a pipercross viper induction kit instead but it also has a cold air feed. when i took off the original air box there was already a hole for me to connect it to and i got air con on my car but it only took less than 10 mins to fit and that included fitting a bracket :?

hi peeps, just went to fit my new alpine head unit/changer and i cant get the bloody old sony face off out, the bit that goes around the face normally comes off seperate from the stereo so u can get the keys/screwdriver down the side to release the main bit of the headunit but on this sony it all seems to be one bit. has any1 else changed a sony headunit before and gimme any ideas coz im sure the suround is meant to come off but i dont wanna break it coz its gonna be sold to a mate of mine !dodge

easiest way would be to drill a small hole into the snapped thread and use an easy-out on it, they have opposite threads, we use em at work and they r the anser to many problems lol
-
ok i rang the bloke my brother works with and he said once hes took it to bits to have a look , if needs be he will do the guides/tensioners new chains and tappets for 600-700 pound.. i think thats quite fair.
-
thats 74000 miles and yea it is genuine, i dont think it would be tappets as that wouldnt really affect the performance would it? its deffinately coming from the 'chain' area but im just keeping my fingers crossed its nothing serious

mileage is only at 74k and theres no smoke whatsoever but it has been running a bit crap !ill [ Edited Fri Apr 29 2005, 11:09AM ]

hmm how does the fuel computer actually work on these because ive always thought it doesnt actually tell u the figure your doing at that precise time but an average of what u have done over the journey so far. at least i hope this is true and i only do about 3 miles to work and back but the fuel comp has very rarely read over 19 Mpg and thats just driving normally!! but i do get about 250+ from a full tank
