  1. Andy - even an idiot like me was able to do it. That top thin strip pulls of and is a push fit (read hard shove to clip in) to replace.
  2. Some dealers (like the one i used to work for) use Castrol oil anyway. I would def go with a genuine oil filter (or at least one made by MANN). Plugs- currently using Bosch, have been advised to use NGK though. Air filter- go a K&N panel in mine. Would go for that, better then standard one. Leads- in my opinion there is nothing wrong with the standard ones. Remember some of the performance ones are thicker, so the channels they slot into need to be filed out to made them fit.
  3. If you are talking about the black plastic sill cover, mine did it too on the drivers side. Is it the top strip that has rusted? If so, this strip can be replaced for £20 + vat from VW. I do not believe the aftermarket offers replacements for these sill coverings. Also check in the door shuts under the rubber seal. Both our '96 VR's have rusted there too.
  4. Go get an Alpine, that should sort it out!
  5. Will try to, we live near J26 of the M25 so its not far away.
  6. Vdubgirl- aren't TSR over your way somewhere? With the amount of tuning work they do they must have diagnostic equipment. Failing that book it into a dealer to be put onto a 1552 or the like to see whats in the fault memory. With any luck it will be a wheel sensor. Binliner- Essex/ Nth East London area.
  7. Did not ask. I reckon you could not go far wrong assuming approx 2hours labour charge at a guess of £50 per hour? It will work out eventually cheaper than buying an off the shelf chip every time at £250. Well thats my reasoning anyway!

  9. No, no, no, beg borrow and steal first. If you have "an other half" sell them too!
  10. 'fraid we're in the S.East. Whats wrong with your car anyway?
  11. £440 fitted inc Vat. However it is reprogrammable if you add more mods later on, as I am planning to do.
  12. My other half would be quite happy to bin 1st and 2nd gears as she too reckons they are useless!
  13. Anyone have an opinion on Remus as its the way I am thinking of going with my car?
  14. Had mine chipped @ Stealth on Friday. With Kent Cams and a K&N panel filter it got 197.7bhp @ the fly which was something like 154bhp @ the wheels.
  15. I have a set of Weitec suspension on mine which is damping adjustable. Its been on the car a couple of months and am quite happy with it. Its lowered just enough to look good and avoid grounding out. Cost about £350
  16. You can pick them up at some of the shows for as little as £10 (+ painting costs). Have seen FK ones for about £30. I think some stick on and others screw on.
  17. Alternatively, go for a hi flow panel filter in the standard airbox. I have seen these produce better rolling road results over cone filters. That would leave you a bit more money for the exhaust system as they are cheaper than cones etc!
  18. Some mainstream insurance companies can be very funny with mods. When I got my VR I went to Admiral. Subsequently when I declared the car to have an upper strut brace, they asked me to find another insurer. Best to go with an understanding specialist. Also look for policies that replace any damaged modified items for the same and not standard factory fit parts.
  19. I think on that same site they also sell the Bentley manuals for the VR6 from the US which are supposed to be pretty good, but cost a few quid.
