    MPG

~120 miles max on £20. Most of my driving is around town and according to my trip computer, I have averaged 22mpg over the last 1000 miles with an average speed of 18mph
  2. Mine does exactly the same thing on my 2.8VR. As kevhaywire mentioned, jacking up the idle speed (via the throttle stop) causes a load of problems which the ECU really doesn't like. I've cleaned the idle speed stabiliser valve, throttle body and checked for obvious air leaks but am no further forward. Local garages have been no help and the dealer has no suggestions that work. It's annoyed me that much that I am getting rid of the car tomorrow....just bought an Impreza to make me feel better [ Edited Thu Apr 22 2004, 12:15PM ]
  3. Just replaced my rad last weekend. I bought the cheap one from ECP. It fitted up real nice and is an exact match for the original. Bit of a pain to fit...I removed the front bumper, grill and headlamps to do the job but it wasn't hard. It would only take 1.5-2 hours max to do if you don't stop for frequent beer breaks!
  4. My 2.0 16V Nova was quicker than my VR6. With a chip, K&N, 4 branch + full stainless it was mental quick.....it ran a 13.9sec quarter @ 109mph at York. That was with wheel spin through the first 3 gears and a chirp going into 4th at 90ish [ Edited Sat Apr 10 2004, 05:37PM ]
  5. Just a quick update on my initial problems. The car refusing to start was down to a speed/ position sensor on the crank. Replacing that fixed it not actually starting but I continued to get the problem where it would take ~10 secs of cranking to fire. The Bosch specialist was wanting to send the ECU away for a manual test but the company doing the testing would have to reflash the original program at a cost of £270. I decided to take the car back to the Superchip dealer who installed the chip 2 months previously....he did a lot of testing and narrowed it down to the Superchip protection board.
  6. Thanks! Yes, my ECU is 021 906 258 A - but no "F" at the end.
  7. Well, after having a start problem for approx 6 weeks my car has finally given up and won't start. Sometimes it'd fired up straight away, other times it would crank for ~10 secs before firing. I've done some basic checks....by-passed the alarm/ immobiliser. I then checked the output to the fuel pump and nothing. I then checked the ignition side....not a dicky bird. On hooking up a friends VAG-Com I get a "communication error". I've got it booked into a local Bosch specialist (who have an awesome reputation) for Monday so with a bit of luck it should get sorted. Does anybody have an idea on pri
  8. An M3 is in a different league to a 328i. My mate happens to have an L plate M3 and it is blazin' fast. It is not how much "peak" power that is available but the spread of power accross the rev range. The superchargers used on the VR6's don't really start to boost to 3000+ revs. Also, getting 240BHP onto the tarmac through the front wheels is hard...I know as my old S1 RST was pushing close to that. The RWD M3 has no trouble whatsoever deploying it's full power to the road.
  9. Try cleaning out the idle air control valve. This is the little black box located to the right of the throttle body and will have 2 pipes leading to it. Also think about giving the throttle body a good clean out, especially if the car is mainly used for town driving.
  10. it will if you cut n' paste it into a new window. Try this [ Edited Thu Dec 18 2003, 11:15AM ]
  11. Hi Chris355, like nickbee I also snagged mine for £100. It possibly won't make a huge difference in performance (I'd guess 5-8 BHP max), but it's all the small gains here and there that add up to a large gain. When AMD are selling gas flowed throttle bodies for £250, I thought £100 was a good deal.
  12. Looks like the throttle body I just won on ebay. Gas flowed and a larger butterfly...66mm vs 64mm (~6.5% increase in area).
  13. Hi there, they look like a generic lead that although *may* fit on the VR, it will be a nightmare to fit easily and even worse to remove without pulling the lead out of the end.
