My exhaust started blowing, and at low revs makes a kinda ding-a-ling sound. I took it into Kwik-fit as I was passing it and they said that a metal bung in the cat had corroded away and fallen out. They have plugged it up with a bolt as the hole was threaded.

Does this sound feasible ? They said tht eonly other way would be to replace the cat etc. If what high flow cat could you recommend, I saw one from Supersprint ?

Is that the hole at the front or the back of the cat. the front hole (on top of the cat i think), is for the lambda sensor (it is on the later ones, not sure about early ones), but if that had come out the car would run like a dog. if it's the back hole it happens to a lot of them. I put a short screw into mine with some exhaust paste last year and not heard a thing since. I would say not to replace the cat unless the rest of it is falling apart!
