richievr 1 Posted June 6, 2006 Report Share Posted June 6, 2006 finally i had the money so i have a new clutch and also cam chains!!!so today i drove to my mates garage and started surgery!!!( well my mate did - i "helped" and watched . . .so up in the air : -bits starting to be removed :-gearbox off, clutch off, rocker cover off : -chains ready to be removed . . :S :-d :-(the paint marks are just double checks - it is timed up properly!!)after chains removed we found one BROKEN tensioner - it literally fell off after removing one of the two bolts!! :-and one very badly worn one : - and that is how it is now - in pieces ....but if you have noisy chains i suggest doing them asap . . .mine could have fell apart any time!! :-d :-d Link to post Share on other sites

richievr 1 Posted June 6, 2006 Author Report Share Posted June 6, 2006 How come you didn't get them done at the dealers' date=' dont the staff get any discount.[/quote']Still cheaper to do your self, and you get to learn something also absolutely - i get 20% off the labour but still works out at about £55 an hour plus vat AND the book time for clutch and chains is something silly like 14 or 15 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i don't have anything like that much money :-( plus my mate who is doing it for me is an audi technician anyway and i would trust him to do anything on my car...which is good.. richievr 1 Posted June 7, 2006 Author Report Share Posted June 7, 2006 part 2 done today starting with new main crank seal :-then onto putting all new chains and tensioners on : -refit the chain covers, new clutch, rocker cover back on, refit manifold ..... : - and finally for today gearbox back on (still dirty), and lower back onto the mounts and remove engine support bar : - tomorrow tighten all bolts, refit drive shaft, gearlinkage, etc etc then go for a hack . . . . .without a slipping clutch!!!
