Focker-out 0
What bit are you replacing cos its in three seperate parts, actual base on the roof, lead that runs through the car, and lead behind glove box/pass side air bag?
stockers 1
its the rubber bit thats perished (think its connected to the base) but is above the base bit, bit confusing i know %-6 do you think i will get away with just replacing the rubber part? which would be a right result as it will mean not having to take down the head lining
Focker-out 0
If its the mast that just un screws from yhe base but if its the base its a more involved job that means dropping the roof cloth, but take your time its not as hard as you'd thinkI am doing this later on in the week, and have done it before pm me if your needing more details on what to do mate

dubloke 4
you dont actually need to remove the headlining much at all tbh. just take the boot seal off all the way round and you can gain enough access to the ariel base to undo th e nut and remove the ariel once you disconnect the lead. replacement is the reversal of this and then pop the seal back on. jobs a good 'un! vr6madmike 0
My seal at the base has gone aswell do you know of anywhere that sells them? VW only sell the whole unit surprise surprise!

dubloke 4
tbh the whole swap over is about a 10 minute job, providing you know what you're doing and it hasnt rusted a hole clean thru your roof!
stockers 1
this place do the different componants, i ordered a new whip for mine http://www.vagparts.co.uk/
Whitedog 0
If you do a search on here for "aerial rubber base" then the top result is a thread with the very same problem which gives you a link to vagparts that sell them. I would do a link but i would only muck it up...ha ha.

mattverth 0
Good on ya - I forgot where I last saw that link. I need a new aerial base and whip, as the Aussie sun has perished both. And the creme de la creme on the site - the felt tape I have been after for AGES - Thanks!
