Ferrari VR6 0
Sign up as a premium member...
vdubgirl 3
You have to be a premium member now to post in the classifieds. And unfortunatly if you not a premium Member any ads placed on the forum, elsewhere will be deleted.Soz only done this to curb people from using this site as free advertising space
VR6Pete 1,455
You can become a premium member by clicking: http://www.vr6oc.com/content.php?content.
Craig 0
Hmm... so this change completely bars anyone who is not a premium member from posting in those sections at all? That is not the best way forward, IMHO. What if someone is selling a part that I am interested in? If I want to ask a question or express interest I have to do it via PM, I suppose ...Surely a better way would be to simply prevent non-premium members from starting new threads on those boards?Just my 2p worth. binliner 0
Soz only done this to curb people from using this site as free advertising space so in theory if a non member but active user wants to sell their car they could pm a mod or a premium member and ask them to post it on their behalf? VR6Pete 1,455
Cr@ig: I'm currenty coding some additions to this restriction. It will mean that premium members can post new threads, but regular members cannot, but regular members will still be able to ask questions, but there is nothing stopping you from sending a PM to the seller. vdubgirl 3
Everybody has the ability to PM people on here so if you want to ask a seller a question about an item then you can PM them there nothing stoppping anyone doing that!
Craig 0
Everybody has the ability to PM people on here so if you want to ask a seller a question about an item then you can PM them there nothing stoppping anyone doing that!Yes ... I did actually say that in my post ... methinks perhaps you missed that bit? :@ The point being with a popular item, a post on the actual thread itself shows everyone who responded first (and how promptly). This prevents "I was first!" arguments.Anyway, the question has been answered, thanks.Personally, I'd have delayed introducing restrictions until the necessary facilities to simply prevent the creation of new threads were in place. That said, I have seen little evidence to suggest any restrictions were necessary. The vast majority of threads in the "For sale" areas belong to regular, active members. Surely whether or not they are premium members is largely irrelevant? And while we are on the subject, is allowing a thread from someone who has joined simply because they have a VR6 for sale really such a bad thing? Why not give VR6OC members a wider selection than the cars belonging to other forum users that only occasionally come up for sale? That has to be at least 5p worth .. so I'll stop. badboyV6 4
Well for instance i bought a set of so called angel eye headlamps from a non registered member on here, and guess what- they were complete crap!! I was completely ripped off, and i completely agree with the idea of locking down this part for premium members. If your serious about the club, and want to be a part of things and help it as much as possible, i dont see the harm in donating 10 quid for the cause?- its not asking a lot is it??? It helps keep the club going, and allows us all to attend club displays for nothing, and also funds things like the cool display banners (Which helped up win best stand at Ragley Hall)I dont see why your kicking up such a fuss over 10 quid cr@ig........It has already been re-itterated that if you see an item you like then PM the person if your not a premium member- the time the pm was sent will be listed in their inbox.... so the seller will know who has responded first- the seller can then put a sold post up in the thread when sold, easy....I dont think allowing someone to just join and sell their shed (that probably needs thousands spent on it and wants to get rid quickly) on here is at all acceptable.... If we are an owners club i would have thought that we all have pretty high standards..... And id personally feel much happier about only legitimate members selling their cars on here and not chancers wasting peoples time, or trying to con our club!!!Anyway im having a bad day...... this post caught my eye at a bad time..... lol

vdubgirl 3
1. Ensure they are actually justified (as opposed to an over reaction' date=' of worse);[/quote']This has been discussed to lengths by the committee in our Moderators area.2. Make people aware of it; Vaild point we should have put a note in the section and on the home page this will be done asap3. Do it in such a way that it does not unreasonably impact the usability of the siteThis does not unreasonably inpact the usbility of the site in any way. Paid members have access to everything here' date=' and even more. And unpaid members can still see this area and can contact potential sellers.4. Only introduce them when you have the facility to specifically restrict what you see as the (potential) problem. Its not a potential problem it has been a problem and has been for sometime. Its costs alot for us to run this site and people who choose to join up as fully paid club members and renew there membership to help contribute to the running of this club do deserve more than people who come on here just to post free ad's. Consider this topic closed if anyone has any issues with this then please contact the chairman chairman@vr6oc.com
badboyV6 4
Firstly i dont consider the £10 fee to be off topic as if you joined you would be able to use the facility- problem solved. You have to agree that at least this puts off any potential shady character from just posting their car up on here for free rather and thinking its a cheaper option than autotrader for example.. Just look at VWVortex for examples of how not regulating the for sale section has gone horribly wrong- theres people being ripped off left right and centre. And secondly- No, users arent vetted but they are certainly vetted by the users of this site if they are regular users, and most regular users become premium members because they like being a part of the club.... simple. And in response to your points;-1. The admin team as a whole do think these changes are justified (otherwise they wouldnt have made them!) Its protecting all the people who use the site who i know are very honest and likeminded people as ive talked to them and seen there posts.... I dont want any of them to ripped off like i was!2. Fair point, a post should have been introduced to make people aware.... At least i wsnt aware of one.3. All other forums are fime so i cant see an issue unless you want to make a quick buck anf flee4. Potentially stopping money grabbing pikeys from posting their useless shite on our site and selling it to our highly respected members.... as stated previously even the people who decide they dont want to become a premium member for one reason or another can send a request to an admin or moderator and if they feel the user is genuine then they could post it up for them....
