Dieselkid 3 Posted March 31, 2016 Report Share Posted March 31, 2016 I bought a 97 Jetta with a vr6 that someone pulled to do a clutch and timing chain. They got the engine and trans put back together and then got bored and sold it to me to finish. I've come quite a ways on the project but I've had a couple problems. I'm making this thread to hopefully get some help and document my project along the way. Right now my main issue is that there is a threaded hole in the intake manifold at the front left corner of the engine and I don't know what it's for. Could you guys please help me out? c00k 435 Posted April 1, 2016 Report Share Posted April 1, 2016 That holes for the inlet temperature sensor. There should be a small vacuum hose connector next to it as well. Inlet temprature sensor goes to inlet temprature plug. And vacuum pipe gose to fuel regulator. Bealieboy 1 Link to post Share on other sites

I found the sensor in a napa catalog online and gave the store the part number because they couldn't find it. Next question, what is this little plastic sensor and where does it go? I took the two hoses off the fuel rail to see if fuel would come out of them when I turned the key on and it didn't... So what do I have to check out guys? Bealieboy 1,625 Posted May 3, 2016 Report Share Posted May 3, 2016 The fuel pump is in tank, you need to remove the tank to get to the pump, check the fuel pump relay first, in the fuse box under the dash on the drivers side. I can't remember the relay number but it's worth starting with the easy stuff first. rich 1 Link to post Share on other sites

I think the pump primes on ignition and then runs when the engine draws fuel? Not sure exactly on that, but defo primes. rich 1 Link to post Share on other sites
Dieselkid 3 Posted May 4, 2016 Author Report Share Posted May 4, 2016 It doesn't do anything when I turn the key on or turn the engine over. I took the fuel lines off at the engine to see if fuel would come out and nothing has. Yes I turned the key on and waited and also turned it over. I will look for the relay.
