Mkandy 0
What size wheels fit on the vr6 without modifications or rubbing I am still on 15" standards I need to upgrade due to a wheel buckle. Thanks AndySent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Big J 283
17x7.5j et 35 mate. Obviously 16" same width will fit.You can go wider and staggered but it's all offset dependant. VR6CABBS
Mkandy 0
So what would be a direct replacement from another car? Tt or any other wheels?Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Big J 283
Yeah you can fit audi TT comp wheels, as many have before you. You need to put smaller tyres on them tho. They are usually fitted with either 215 or 225 I can't quite remember, but need 205/40r17.There other wheels from audi and vw alike that would fit in both 16 and 17" forms, so long as the stud pattern is 5x100
Mkandy 0
Thanks big j, that has cleared it up a bitSent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Big J 283
People do say they handle a lot better on 16s but there's a lot of us that run 17 and find them perfectly fine. Myself included.I wouldn't go up to 18s tho as that does require arches rolling and it kills the handling because they're simply too big for the car Bealieboy
daveyboy 897
Agreed with J. I run 17's on mine and the ride is fine.
Bealieboy 1,625
Agreed with J. I run 17's on mine and the ride is fine. what profile? 205/40's? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
daveyboy 897
Yeah on my rears which are 8.5j and 195/40 on the front which are 7.5j
Big J 283
I run 205/40 all round on 7.5j, and I'll run 205 on 8 & 8.5j. I don't get enough ground clearance with 195/40 it leaves my rims too vulnerable redvr6_girl
Bealieboy 1,625
Yeah, that's a wise move, I've touched both rears on mine due to a combination of tyre stretch and lack of concentration! What a piss off that was! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Big J
daveyboy 897
I try to be careful and have been lucky so far
c00k 435
I have 185 35 17 and my rims are mint! But I am super careful when parking,I always tilt my mirrors down so I can see the edge of the kurb. And I pot hole dodge everywhere. Plus I only run the wheels with 185's in the summer. My winter wheels have bigger winter wet weather tyres But I do want to go back to 195's to get slight better grip on my summer wheels.
craggsy 91
I only run 18s as they need to clear brakes
KieranH 30
Yeah on my rears which are 8.5j and 195/40 on the front which are 7.5j So you have 205/40/17 for the rear and 195/40/17 for the front? Did any changes need to be made to prevent rub? Edited January 19, 2015 by KieranH
Bealieboy 1,625
Possibly daveyboy's arches were rolled. My new wheels are 10" wide on the rear and my arches will Defo need rolling.
KieranH 30
Bealieboy I don't know anything about wheel sizes, offset ect so I'm finding it hard to find wheels that can fit a Golf vr6 with no problem.
Bealieboy 1,625
Here's a website link that will give the correct sizes for any car. Have a look and go through the options, That should give you offsets and required tyre sizes. http://www.wheelfitment.eu/car/Volkswagen/Golf%203%20GTI,VR6%20(1991%20-%201997)/ Edited January 20, 2015 by Bealieboy VR6CABBS

Do you know if that tire stretch is to much? 7.5 tire for a 9 rim. Edited January 20, 2015 by KieranH
Bealieboy 1,625
215/40/16 gives a nice stretch on 9" rim Edited January 20, 2015 by Bealieboy
