Yeah you can fit audi TT comp wheels, as many have before you. You need to put smaller tyres on them tho. They are usually fitted with either 215 or 225 I can't quite remember, but need 205/40r17.

There other wheels from audi and vw alike that would fit in both 16 and 17" forms, so long as the stud pattern is 5x100

I have 185 35 17 and my rims are mint!

But I am super careful when parking,

I always tilt my mirrors down so I can see the edge of the kurb.

And I pot hole dodge everywhere.

Plus I only run the wheels with 185's in the summer. My winter wheels have bigger winter wet weather tyres :)

But I do want to go back to 195's to get slight better grip on my summer wheels.

Here's a website link that will give the correct sizes for any car. Have a look and go through the options, That should give you offsets and required tyre sizes. http://www.wheelfitment.eu/car/Volkswagen/Golf%203%20GTI,VR6%20(1991%20-%201997)/

It appears that 205/45/16 on 16x9 would need a tire stretch. Do you know if that tire stretch is to much? 7.5 tire for a 9 rim.
