Guest ady
Help. I have a VW Sharan VR6. Of late it been running as if its only got 4 cylinders. It miss-fires alot and acceleration is very slow. We have also been returning about 19-20 to the gallon, were as before it was between 25-30. I have replace the HT leads and plugs and have run a diagnostic test and it does not come up with anything. However I have been told that it may be the air mass meter which needs replacing. Do these problems sound like they could be being cuased by a faulty air mass meter? Any help would be most appreciated.
dragon_vr6 0
It's worth a try getting a new mass air flow meter. I've experinced similar problems never showed up on a diagnostic test. The car felt sluggish, poor acceleration etc. In the end it was the mass air flow meter.
acf8181 0
weird, i'd have thought an MAF fault should triger a code.have you had a compression test done?[ Edited Wed May 04 2005, 03:53PM ]
VRmonster 1
have you reset the codes before checking them as they sometimes dont change if not. also, check the connections on the maf as they can just come loose. if it is the maf that is.
VR6Pete 1,455
a wire broke on my MAF, i knew something was drastically wrong! not always does it show up in VAG COM.
FishWick 21
The VR ECU does not monitor the MAF. It's only concerned with the connection. The most common MAF error is "Intermittant short to ground". Other than that, it's hard to tell if the MAF is buggered unless you put it on a scope....but if the car is gutless and using a lot of fuel, the ECU is 'guesstimating' the fuelling via the throttle angle sender. FishWick 21
The MAF is connected between the airbox and air intake hose, should be pretty easy to spot.
that_kid 0
This sounds exactly like the problem I'm having. I checked the MAF and found the wire that goes around inside is broke. Damn time to cough up $360 for a replacement.
