Mulberry Highline Project

I've finally managed to get myself another VR6 sorted   I've bought a mulberry highline VR6 as it ticked all the boxes I wanted. Ideally I wanted a 3 door but decent 3dr's are either silly money, thrashed, knackered or rotten. 

 

The car is in very good condition but I want to take it up a notch ready for show season starting again in March.

 

So the list of planned mods are:

 

Set of wheels, not sure what to go for yet but something shiny and with a bit of dish.

Recaro front seats in black leather

Full respray

Supercharger!! 

 

So this mornings task was to give the car a good look over, lift the coilovers a bit and give it a service.

 

Give it a good wash last night so I could have a good look around it

 

 

 

 

 

On the whole its very tidy, the bodywork is straight which is always a good start and its very solid underneath which is always a bonus with a mk3  

 

First things first was to get all the wheels off and have a check on the suspension, they're only cheap coilovers but all seem to be in good condition with all the adjusters moving freely, so I started cleaning under the arches as there was a good few years worth of dirt under there and I want this car mint.

Then onto the engine, it was clear I had a bit of an oil leak from somewhere but wasn't sure where until I got it on the ramp, looks like its been riding low for a while and was lucky to still have a sump in one piece! 

 

 

So luckily I managed to source one from Euro Car Parts in Preston and got my dad to pick it up while I was carrying on with the work.

 

Also had another leak from the usual VR6 place which is the oil cooler seals which luckily I had in my tool box ready for my last VR6

 

 

New seals fitted

 

 

Nice new VW oil filter which I had lying around too  

 

 

Back together and cleaned up a bit better than it was

 

 

Got rid of the awful crystal front fogs and indicators in favor of some smoked ones I had lying around, these won't be staying either as I want a set of OEM anniversary smoked units.

 

 

Rmoved the number plate too and cleaned all the double sided tape off, might run it without a number plate for a while and see how I get on, 

 

 

Managed to regas the aircon and low and behold it works! Not gonna need it much now but it's nice to know it works! 

 

Changed the brake fluid as well as it was fairly black.

 

Refitted the standard airbox but its now made it too quiet so something will have to be done about that  

 

Filled the engine with 6ltrs of castrols finest 10w40 and its now running like a dream. 

 

Lifted the coilies a couple of inches ready for winter and it now drives a lot better, I've got some Votex roof bars to go on so I car stick my mountain bike on the roof instead of cramming it in the boot.

 

On the whole very pleased with the old girl and looking forward to putting my own stamp on it.

Cheers guys its getting there, new wheels are here tomorrow along with tyres and adaptors so it should look a lot better by the end of the week as those awful headlights will be going, standard fogs and indicators will be here too.

 

I've also been tempted to get hold of a standard boot lid and pair of bumpers for it too!

 

I'll get some pics up during the week of last weeks jobs and progress too

So the new wheels are on! A8 monoblocks in 17x8 ET48 with 30mm adaptors on the front and 35mm on the rear!

 

 

 

 

Need to sort the ride height out a bit better and tweak the front camber in a bit but on the whole I'm very happy with them.

Cheers guys, I'm running 195/40R17 Hankook S1 evo's. The same size and make I was running on my Raceline RL7's on my last VR so knew they were good tyres and offer excellent grip in the dry and wet. 

 

Fitted some standard headlights last night and my hella quads have arrived today so will get them on tomorrow along with standard fogs/indicators and see how it looks with standard VR rear lights too. Soooo many plans and never have time to do them. Really hoping to get on the club stand for ultimate dubs too and if I do I'll treat the old girl to a full respray

Well a few more bits done to the old girl, fitted a spare chipped ECU I had lying around from my old VR not sure if its really made a difference as this engine isn't really modified compared to my last one so might take it off for a while. 

 

Gave the throttle body a good clean out as I could tell it wasn't just coming off throttle as well as it should, then I also found this

 

 

Pretty common problem on VR's and glad I found it before it got any worse. Luckily I had a good condition spare sat in my tool box so that was an easy fix  ;D

 

Todays little mod was a set of damned near mint hella quad headlights, all 4 lamps are like brand new and one of the outer covers is brand new! So they were a bit of a bargain compared to some sets I've seen sell lately.

 

 

 

Very happy with the front end now, just awaiting some standard OEM front fogs and indicators to get rid of the smoked crystal items.

Looks mint mate, I have a the same car, not a fan of all this stanced/slammed scene more performance fast road but I like the look if urs top work.
