Moochalargo 0
A few weeks ago my belt tensioner seised and shreded the belt I had to drive it a bit and cooked the engine. I ended up having to replace head and gasket ect But then after when all should have been good I got loads of cream in the header tank shed loads so I cleaned out and flushed with all kinds of stuff and ended up with clear water. After driving for another 20 to 30 miles I now have oil that looks like white coffee and oil in the water again!!!! AggghSo today I've taken the head off and even though it's supposed to be fine im getting it skimmed and another head gasket set and bolts but some one said the oil cooler may be broken!! Guys do you know or should I roll the car over a cliff somewhere?Been told the oil cooler could be broken and did find a bit of rubber gasket coming out one of the water ways!!Is this my problem and have I removed the head for no reason?? Week confused and running out of money fast!!
cabrioman 6
it could be the oil cooler yeah or could be the head deformed .... if i was you id get the head skimmed and replace the oil cooler
legvw 0
I'd always have a head skimmed if the engine got over temp, also the head maybe cracked somewhere which would need testing to eliminate. Did you torque the bolts correctly? And clean the mating faces properly?
Moochalargo 0
Head is being skimmed and I'm getting all new bolts gaskets and an oil cooler. I'm sure I got the bolt sequence right and I read the torque settings were. 35. 45. 90 degrees. 90 degrees. When I removed the head again the middle row of bolts squeezed and cracked as I moved them but the inlet and outlet sides didn't feel half as tight???Also local machanic said the head gasket didn't look as squashed as he would have expected!!?? cabrioman 6
did you clean out the threads in the block and lube the bolt heads and washers to avoid the cracking when torquing them up ???
CALICO 130
I Had my head gasket done but still had leaking turned out the head was warped had it skimmed and all is fine now. I was lucky i did not have water/oil contamination.
Moochalargo 0
Skimmed the head. New gasket set. New oil cooler. COMPLETLY skint now and after ten mins of running the oil is coffee coloured and oil in water again!!! Wtf is going on? Feeling so shit I'm close to scrapping the car now!! russj249 2
Are you sure this isn't just hinge that's come out of the heater matrix and radiator from last time? Drain all the coolant and refill with water, just keep flushing it through.
russj249 2
Sorry.. just noticed that you say oil was contaminated too.
v6horse 1
Did you have the head checked for cracks ?
Moochalargo 0
The car over night dumped loads of water in to the oil!!What is going on?? It's crazy!!! Can the crank case be shot or is the head got issues! Got this head from some git on eBay telling me it had only done 68k and had nothing wrong with it!!
cabrioman 6
could be either hard to know with out testing did you get the head pressure tested ????
Moochalargo 0
No that's my next step. Get it crack tested!!Going to leave it for a bit as I'm just throwing money at it now and nothing is working. Could have r32'd it by now the money I've wasted!!!Can I reuse stretch bolts? I've purchased two sets now!!!???
rsweeney 40
cant reuse stretch bolts as once the bolt has stretched the metal of the bolt has also stretched. defo get it pressure tested as youve covered most of the oil and water related bits . couldnt it be the water jacket on main block that is leaking or cracked thats letting water and oil mix?saw where it had happened on a daihatsu i owned previously
Moochalargo 0
Does a vr block have a water jacket?
Moochalargo 0
guys im having a night mare with her!!
Moochalargo 0
Had the head pressure tested cold and hot and its fine!!this makes me think that the block must have a fault somewhere or the new oil cooler i purchased may be a dud!! either way ive got to get more head bolts and another head gasket.im going to try and bypass the oil cooler to eliminate that from the question!do any of you know of a good water treatment? ive had irontight mentioned and also steel seal ive been promissed is amazing!any other ideas as i really need the car working now! its been broken for almost 4 months!!!cheers guys
Daverse 175
sure you installed the oil cooler ok? if you misaligned the seal it could be leaking
VR6Pete 1,455
My money is on the oil-cooler, probably the cheapest and easiest thing to rule out!
Moochalargo 0
Yeah ok thanks lads!! Going to get my bolt set and gasket later and for now bypass the cooler!I also need a part if anyone has one? The breather of the head that connects to the plastic air intake pipe has broken after being moved around so much!! Anyone got one? Cheers
ski 0
would say oil cooler aswell, or you might have a problem with your block :/.
Moochalargo 0
Rebuilt now. Head tested and not crackedOil cooler bypassed. Oil still getting in to water. What can I do now? I'm out of z job at moment and this is thrashing my money! Really can't keep wasting what little money I am earning?
Moochalargo 0
Ok this engine is dead!! Case must be cracked as loosing all oil in to water and it's now bursting hoses lolI've been and got another engine which I believe is ok but this engine is slightly different!! The cam cover is aluminium not plastic like mine. Also the exhaust manifolds have a metal hose that connects them and then seems to go to somewhere??? My car does not have this!!! What is it?
VR6Pete 1,455
Yeah earlier VR's had alloy cam covers, later replaced with plastic as they are quiter. Not sure about your exhaust manifold? Any pics?
cabrioman 6
the metal pipe on the exhaust fanny mould is for the EGR but as far as i know no UK spec cars have the EGR system fitted so it should just link from one side of the exhaust to the other ....
