dazzr1 0
Hi everyone, I'm looking at buying a mint vr6, i have spotted one but a bit unsure of it, would like some help/info, The car in question is a '97 vr6 golf but has had a 2.9 corrado conversion and bored out to a 3.1, are there any downsides to this conversion and is there anything to look out for?? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Daverse 175
insurance and fuel economy i would expect to suffer plastic surgery bill to enlarge your mouth to give a bigger smile :-dor joker gas look for rust around the sills / arches, thats a killer for golfs, and just have a general nosey round bodywork / engine for any symptoms. hope that helps
Gazbarber1982 3
I've read before that when they are bored out this far, it makes the wall between the pistons and cooling channels a bit weak. I've seen 2 on eBay in the last week. I would guess they would be ok to run na but I wouldn't go forced with these engines personally!
dazzr1 0
Nice 1 ok cheers guys, also I guess as it's a corrado lump, it'll be an obd1 not 2? Is this right, if so does this bring up any cons in itself?
Gazbarber1982 3
Not too many I don't think. Kev haywire says the obd2 is far better for remapping but it all depends on what your plans are for the car.
FishWick 21
You can't do a 3.1 with bore alone, you need a different crank and pistons. I would check for evidence of this work in the history as it costs £1000s to do properly. Back in the day only ABT made a 3.1 crank, but these days I think you can muck around with R32 cranks and the like....Yeah OBD2 is the better ECU but OBD1 isn't the end of the world.
