GEPY 0
my mk2 vr fitted by some one else but fits in nice as long as u use vr running gear ie subframe.
Smit. 0
i didnt realise you had to lower the engine for clearance! I will remember this over the next coming weeks!!
taz6673 0
I had to get my vibratechnics rear engine mount machined down by 25mm to get engine sit straight and clear bonnet. Was miles off at standard height even using vr subframe n rado crossmember.
bentheboffin 1
the only reason you cut the rear mount is so that the engine sits level.if you are planning on slamming your car then there is detailed guid on mk2vr6 on how to raise your engine with the other 2 mounts using hockey pucks but leave the rear engine mount alone
Vw_owner 1
to put a vr6 in a mk2 is it fairly straight forward with the mountings?
michael5556 247
Yeah I have just finished mine this week. I used mk3 subframe, power steering, hubs, brakes, I used the mk2 front cross member with a special mount off eBay for £40. Just make sure you hammer the chassis leg for clearance of the pulley. ski 0
The rear mount does need to lowered.
JamesSvr6 1
I used a corrado vr6 subframe, mk3 engine with standard inlet and I took 15-20mm off the rear engine mount because it was just touching the bonnet. Seems strange that some people need to and others don't, must just depend on the parts you are using. Engine mounts compress a bit over time (different brands may be slightly different heights and material too) so this will obviously effect how close the engine sits to the bonnet.Remember also to modify chassis leg where the crank pulley is. If you don't it causes the crank pulley to rub on hard left handers.
Database14 0
Completed my mk2 vr6 swap recently, never touched any of the mounts and no issues with clearance. Wonder what all the fuss is about seriously. Used Jetta MK3 k-frame and passat vr6 motor mounts (all 3)
