Yet another Insurance Thread lol

Recommended Posts

Insurance is due for renewal in January - No company will quote me unless its within 30 days so I said my renewal date was within 30 dates for a roundabout quote. Bearing in mind I have only 1 yrs no claims (at renewal date) and the current policy started out with a Golf Cabrio and I have had 3 other cars since so the real amount for 1year is unknown...until now.

2 detailed over the phone quotes with so called specialist insurance companies - both around £900!!

My car is a standard VR with the only change being the wheels, so I went the internet quote route and have 3 different companies offering between £550-£600. When the date of renewal is closer I will be speaking to one of/all of them - even with a small increase to cover the wheels I am still quids in.

Having read many an insurance thread lately it seems none of the specialist companies can compete with the internet lot. I am more than aware I need to speak to the internet based company over the phone to confirm everything thing but still IMO pounds cheaper.

Opinions.....

yea but how am i ment to insure my golf when it jumped from a 1.6 to 2.8' date=' they wont touch me

Have you tried? What is it insured as now? A 1.6 or a 2.8? If you have been honest and declared it's hike in cc and you are insured now, NO reason why you wouldn't get insurance in the future..............

Im insured through a specialist and they reduced the amount when i added mod. Im with hic all mods declared and only 21 when i insured it and i pay 600.

I called them and the lowest they offered me was just under £1k......needless to say I said no.

Also one to point out with HIC is that they are a broker and pass you onto a separate insurer.

Mr Flux.....£897.....I am now thinking and after reading other threads that unless your car is modded these people quote ridiculously high.....how/why is that?

I used to be with adrian flux but when i got the vr they couldbnt do better than 650 ish, i had been quoted online 350 and around that price, they couldnt better it.

Main/big companies are rip off. I always advise people to check 'quote detective' its quick and easy and always comes up top when i do quotes and i do alot quotes 7 vehicles to be precise, lol

Im due now 27nov, so i will be starting to look now in next week....prices are always better closer to the renewel date i find. Also check your mot's for your average milage, as companies will say average is 12000, you may only do half that which will bring price down.

Update...

Finally my current insurer has come up with a renewal quote £540 which is funnily enough the same as the amount I got from the compare website for the same company.

However and this is strange - instead of just carrying on with the monthly amounts they want £113 up front deposit followed by monthly payments. If I go on compare the deposit is almost half the £113 they want.

Very strange, but also good news that the amount has not dramtically increased for another year as most people seem to have gone up in price.

I only have 1 years NCD as I hit the back of someone last year (Even the insurance company told me he was a serial claimant yet stilled paid him a grand out for a new rear bumper).
