oldmandon 1
Hey all,I want to do some subtle tweeks to my car. I can't really afford to put a blower on so have resigned myself to more run of the mill stuff. Basically I'm thinking of fitting the following.Milltec induction kit, Milltec exhaust manifold, Sport cat, Milltec exhaust system. Any ideas what sort of gains I should be looking at, and what else should I could be doing to tweek it and what gains that would give???I want to keep it subtle but still have a surprising kick. I am after all 46 and a family man, which means bills to pay!!!!!!!!!!!......All help gratfully accepted
spadam 7
You woudnt see to much of gain with that but add a shrick manifold, cams and a remap and you could possiblly achieve 225bhp. Be cheaper to get a rotrex for around £2000 then you would have around 270bhp with the ptential for a lot more.
oldmandon 1
Rotrex? Turbo or supercharger I guess.....I don't have £2k to spend, I have to do it a bit at a time, hence just doing exhaust filters etc and a remap. I'd actually be happy with 225bhp provided it had the torque to match. Obviously there would ALWAYS be things out there that would be faster, I just want it to be able to hold its own and not be embaressed too badly. But thanks for the input....may I could save up after doing minor mods to do blower or something
spadam 7
A rotrex is a supercharger. If staying N/A a shrick gives a nice amount of torque right where its needed and some cams a remap would be all you need to keep you happy. Shrick manifolds are around £800 second hand which is pricey if you ask me as id rather save the extra and supercharge it.But as you say 225bhp would keep you happy so get looking for some second hand bargains they allways pop up on this forum. oldmandon 1
I'm guessing I still need to do the exhaust and filter along with the shrick cam and manifold? Why the shrick manifold over the miltec? Has one proven to be better than the other?
spadam 7
shrick inlet manifold rather then exhaust manifold. The shcrick inlet manifold has an internal flap to help torque low down then when you hit 4000rpm it opens to allow more air through.
russj249 2
the shrick manifold is the inlet manifold. You can keep with the miltec exhaust manifold. The shrick inlet manifold lets the air flow better. I believe it has a short and long air flow which helps a lot and gives more power.spadam you beat me to it
Special K 81 0
CAn i just point out,....there isnt much out there that embarrasses a standard vr6 mate....it wipes the floor with most modern wanabe hot hatch's fella!! ask anyone on here.lol
CALICO 130
standard exhaust manifold keeps torque apparently
oldmandon 1
Right, I've made up my mind on what performance mods I'm gonna do to my current VR. As it's gonna be my daily driver, I'm not going to daft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Start with I'm going to fit an Induction kit (done) a 6 branch manifold, Cat back exhaust (probably Miltex) Sport cat, maybe a decat pipe. Then I'm going to polish (flow) the throttle body, and the inlet manifold. Then I'll put in some Schimel 263 cams (on majority recomendations) and get a remap. Finally I'm gonna put on some power pulleys and a lightened/balanced Flywheel. What sort of gains do you all think this will give, and how driveable will the car be?
eastwood john 1
polish the throttle body.. wots that all about don,, and who does it :S
oldmandon 1
polish the throttle body.. wots that all about don' date=', and who does it :S [/quote']Smooth out the insides so the airflow has a smoother pasage, less turbulence, better flow rate??!!!??! eastwood john 1
ya doing that yourself mate
oldmandon 1
ya doing that yourself mateFraid so!!!! also gonna be doing the inlet manifold. Got a spare upper manifold, need to get the lower one so I can polish it on the outside, and flow the inside. Also need to get a spare throttle body to do the same...Gonna be my winter project!!!!!!!!! Brrrrrrrrrrrr
eastwood john 1
arr ok don let us now how ya get on mate,,
FishWick 21
Don't mess with the throttle. The only way to improve flow is by enlarging the throttle plate, which is not a DIY job. And if your engine is OBD2, you can forget that anyway! Some people fit the Corrado throttle which is minus the hump, but said hump actually speeds up gas flow at low openings to improve torque.Don't waste your money on filters and exhausts, they don't increase power, they just make more noise.Schimmel cams, remap and shorter final drive will certainly make it more accelerative. [/quote']?? scuse me???? would you like to collaberate your statement? I was always under the impression that a freer breathing engine produced more power, faster in faster out etc......Also I've got a before and after dyno reading which shows an increase in power just from the induction kit alone. Why would race teams fit them if they didn't improve matters?I will admit that with engine mods, you will gain more power with the induction kits et al, but yo will gain power and noise without doing a cam job, just not as much..................... Ben Seabrook 4
Kev is right mate exhaust might add 2-3 bhp but I would be very scpetical of any readout showing an increas in bhp from an air filter !! stick to cams and a remap or an ECU from C2 and that will do you well mate
oldmandon 1
Can you tell me then, why most peeps puts on race manifolds, decats and systems if they dont do much? A standard VR6 sounds sweet, noise wise anyway.
Ben Seabrook 4
noise they are helpful if your forced induction but otherwise the standard setup copes more than adequatley mate
Ben Seabrook 4
you might see 10bhp ish at a push but when you think of the cost your better off with cams and a remap for pretty much the same cost !!
oldmandon 1
I'll be dynoing the car after the exhaust etc but before the cam and chip, will give you the results, I'm intrigued now. already got the induction kit and 6 branch, so they're going on anyway. Dave_ciw 507
Hey Don hows things mate polishing and porting throttle bodies will prob see you enough bhp to count on your left hand. Best place to start on a budget is a good service. Also something over looked by a lot of people which I have always found good improvements with is the cleaning of your cam sensor. This is a nice easy weekend job. This will help claw back some of the stock BHP you may have lost over the years. Then again move with your air filter and exhaust but as said you may get 10bhp for a lot of cash spent. If you can go for a BMC CDA it will prob be better.Good luck and let us know of your mods fella.
