Tony...i dont know you from adam(who is adam anyway...lol) but your name has cropped up with some issues iv questioned vr6 wise(like chains and tensioners, been told to chat with you). But if im willing to contact you, which i been meaning to, off the back of a couple people mentioning you that cant be bad. Thats word of mouth reputation...i tell you now, no amount of advertising, expense to advertise etc can buy that. I know i had my own business. Good work get repeat custom and new. I tell you, my vr6 is a daily, im desperate for jobs to be done but waiting on brother in law(machanic)...if you were near i'd be using you.

Sound advice is a plenty in this thread, dont pigeon hole yourself, obviously specialise in what you like but success in business is the ability to diversify with the change in times, practices etc. I dont think you will be short of work, i really dont...but!!!...also keep in mind,at the moment yu are one man, a bad thing would be to take on too much and spread yourself to thin, i.e make too many promises/appointments that you can handle...as that tony then insights people to complain etc and leans towards bad rep. You have to be realistic at what you can take on and even if the enthusiasm is there to do as much as possible, help as many people you cant do everything.

Name on van wise, short and simple makes people curious to find out what exactly you do and is also memorable.

Another important thing Tony is its a business first, you have to distinguish between business and favours and even when work time is and your time is. After all, apart from the money people case and want to make working for themselves(bit like the del boy dream,,,one day we will be millionaire's) most the peope who go at it them selves are chasing job satisfaction of doing something they enjoy and there is a point where it can become just another job you have had enough of if you go overkill.

That said,..... if you havent fallen asleep, there's always work for a mech. and i wish you all the best.....make sure you hit up cardiff way there's a poorly vr6...lol

Karl

how much for chains and tensioners changed/sorted!?!?...bearing in mind that advice was free ;)...ha ha see tony you have to distinghuis between business and favour ha ha

Nice one!!

Oh and no worries tony, advise should be considered from many people but also set in your mind what you want as ultimately its you that needs to be happy in your work....toooo many of us go to work to be shafted by someone else....for what exactly!?! then just complain about it and role along in the machine that is the routine of working life.lol

But be prepared to learn your own lessons from mistakes too...its all learning..

my mates and i joke when on a night out or planning a night out(which i must say is rare i dont go out anymore :(.lol)....'live the dream!'

....go tony...go live the dream!!!!!ha ha

I agree witht he name as it sounds personal enough and covers enough product... I disagree with the dont put to much on the van.. Put enough..

Mobile Mechanic...

Numbers

Hours of work..

What you do...

MOT

Service

race Prep

etc

etc etc in summary form without overloading me

Words like qualified and Professional and registerd (Corgi ;) )

As said the important thing is to make it easy to read and see... after that I need to know what you do and offer... I cant be bothered to phone people if the van next door tells me what I need to know.. if you follow me...

Finally if in the van this may sound daft but if you are polite and drive in a good way in a clean van wearing a nice uniform affair, rather than ripped jeans and a T. As opposed to wheel spinning everywhere you attract the correct attention. Always remember first impressions are everything and generally people make their mind up about you in the first 2 seconds before you even speak or get the chance to show what you can do...

Think about the whole picture, if you look and act professional the chances are you are...

Hope all this helps...

I'd go with TW Auto-repairs

TW automotive is quite a broad spectrum, and whilst it will cause some people to ponder and research the name, many wont

Automotive can cover everything from repairs, to engineering to parts sales and car recycling.

Car bods will probably distinguish it as a repair orientated name, many wont
