M44 DUB 2
MInes does this too, can't locate the problem but can get it started if i put it in 1st and let the clutch out and bump it keep the key turning over until it burst into life. Had it on VAGcom and it showed up no faults. It's doing my head in tbh.

Rikki 2
Yup x2. Check the ring behind the ignition. If its not faulting on vagcom could just be loose and not picking up the key now and again?

Scott 0
sounds like the iacv could be dirty or jammed too, or the MAF is open circuit...
Rikki 2
Whats an iacv?

CALICO 130
Whats an iacv?my guess is isv lol
Rikki 2
Your prob right....never heard it called that before and if hes obd2 he wont have one anyway!!!!!!!!!!
Scott 0
idle air control valveit sets the idle, if its jammed shut it wont idle cold, or jammed open, wont idle hot. The maf (airflow meter) if open circuit, will make it start but immediately cut out when cold, will idle for about 10 seconds when hota short circuit maf will run perfect cold, then cut out and refuse to rev when hot (over 60oC oil temp on MFA)Engine coolant temp sensor (ECT) will cause the same symptoms.immob ring will always start first then cut out a few seconds later on the mk3
Rikki 2
So an isv then????? If an obd2 maf is open circuit the car will run almost normal as it gets the idle from the throttle body. I still think its immob ring if its not in the correct place and isnt sensing the chip in the key all the time this will cause his problem. To the OP what year is your car ? VR6Kev 0
I had a similar problem to this a while back and it turned out to be a faulty ignition switch cutting power when returning from the starting position to the running position.
