yea i was also a little dissapointed really expected it to be faster than it is. owned the car nearly a year now in that time had it rebuilt, cat back exhaust, BMC. still got new ht leads and silicone hoses to go on. hoping by cleaning the hall sensor and fitting new Ht leads it may seem a little better fingers crossed.

From what you're saying, I suspect that there might be something wrong with my VR then, I'm realistically averaging about 26 mpg normal, and about 30 on motorways, and that is actually trying to be fuel efficient :/.

Ok, so maybe my car might not be running right, but as regards to what Jamesr said about an economical car that's fun and not a diesel, I'm not looking for an economical car, I realise that power doesn't really come without a price.

When I changed from my MK2 Gti (which was very quick), I expected that since she had quite a bit of tuning done to her, that a VR6 would not be too far off the same fuel economy. The difference is vast though, my VR guzzles fuel like there's no tomorrow, and I genuinely recon that my MK2 would've eaten her off the road performance wise.

To finish my point, I honestly think that there are better options available as far as power and economy in a car are concerned, whether you're looking for a diesel or a petrol as opposed to a VR6. The fact of the matter is that VR6's just don't cut the mustard without having to throw thousands of pounds at them first of all.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a complete Dub nut, they're all I've ever driven, and most likely all I'll drive for the foreseeable future, I'm just relaying some of my initial impressions of the car. I'll report back after I've had her serviced properly and cleaned the hall sensor. Hopefully my opinion will have changed, fingers crossed.

Most if not all of us will and do admit that the VR is not a quick point to point car..........but these really come into there own when on long drives as they are very comfy and very easy to drive long distances and a lot of us do every year with our trip to the ring every Easter.

Only way to make these cars scooby killers is by spending thousands on em and going FI. I myself only went FI 5 months ago after trying my hardest to stay NA for as long as poss...........now its sooooo much more fun

Couldn't agree with you more on the comfortable to drive part, I love mine for that bit.

I'm not ready to spend thousands on her just yet though, I imagine I'll probably go through a few cars and then come back to a VR6 at some point. I'll hold onto her for now though.

When I come back to tune a VR it might not be in a Golf though... i've always fancied a mid engined VR6 Polo 6n track car (6) hehe

make sure you use good fuel like optimax my car is slow with normal unleaded but i never put it in..optimax only

Often considered using BP Ultimate, it's the only half decent fuel you can get around here, and have been lured by promises of extra miles per tank, but with the way my VR's guzzling fuel at the minute, and the fact it's about £1.17 a litre around here, I've not filled her up on it yet.

Does it really make that much of a difference? I know I'd be putting it in a VR, but is there anything to the claims of extra miles to a tank?

IT all depends what you want from your car really...

It doesnt matter what you buy there is always a more "economical version / faster version / reliable version" etc etc....

The thing i love about them is as ive said further back in the thread is the "wolf in sheeps clothing"

Once i have my VR no-doubt i'll forced induction of somekind, and there will be nothing better than pulling up to the lights next to some pikey in a scooby in what will essentially look like a debadged MK3 and tos ee the look on his face in my rear view mirror!!!!!

all depends what you want from the car really, not many you can pick up for under £2k with 184bhp (in good nick anywho)

That is exactly y i haven't chopped mine in for a Jap power beast yet. Everyone expects a Skyline or Rex to take off. No one expects my 13yr old de-badged to Rooooooooooooarrrrrrrrrrrr past them at 150odd!! (down the strip of course!)

keep it a bit longer and get used to it, if it doesnt have coilovas, get it on some asap, they are fantastic!

also my vr6 is faster than my old 2.5 e36 beemer when driven hard. there not overly fast no, but when you know the revs and where the torque is, its smiles all the way for me :)

I realise this is more about the 'real' vr but my 4mo is the same, i think expensive to tax, run, insure, feed, repair, not very fast etc, but its a gazillion times more reliable than my mates r33 skyline gtst sounds bootiful and the 4wd is the most fun ive had in the wet with me kecks on (sideways racing an R6 on the mountains) :-d and i say to skyline owning friend every weekend, it makes me smile like a school child, especially as it is being rebuilt again at the mo :)
