oil gunked hall sender/crank position sensor.

Recommended Posts

decided to inspect the condition of hall sender this morning[behind coilpack,in the side of the block].gunked with oil, cleaned it with elect. contact spray and re-inserted.went for a drive-f***************ck me.what a difference it made.now pull/revs like it is chipped.only cleaned it to see if it improved the 'dead' acceleration 1-2k revs in any gear and that little bit of kick back i got when feathering the throttle.my faith in the vr has been re-installed,very pleased.hope this throws light onto other members problems. !amazed !amazed

baz780:disconnect battery + terminal for safety.remove leads from coilpack.take off the leads shrouding[star bolts x3].remove the coilpack from the side of the block[allen bolts x4].unclip the the coilpack plug in.the hall sender will be behind the coilpack.unplug the hall sender and remove x1 allen bolt.withdraw the sensor carefully and clean any oil deposits/gunk from it[elect. contact cleaner].refit in reverse.then this is the best bit........GO FOR A DRIVE.

you don't have to remove the coilpack, but it'll be easier to get to if you do.

its right near the coilpack, and goes into the upper cam chain housing, held by one 5mm allen key bolt (be careful, they round easily).

symptoms when mine screwed up were serious loss of power, and very lumpy running. though it felt ok at very low rpms.

mines a 94m with new coilpack.had intermittent flat acceleration 1-3k and a bit of 'kick back' when on/off throttle any revs.had it on vag com-crank position sensor fault or hall sender G40 negative to earth.it is as behind the c/pack as ACF explains.after i cleaned it it's been like ULTRA responsive in any gear@ any revs.let me rephrase that-IT'S FUCKING ACE!!!!!!

BAZ780;after you take the single allen bolt out.work the hall sender out slowly.you'll be looking at a small stubby cylindrical sensor with 2 'O' rings around it.i cleaned all oil/gunk deposits off it until spotless.re-inserted and refitted everything else back in place.its now a different car.hope you have the same success as me BAZ780!
