Advice please. Pipercross Viper Kit and chip for VR6

Recommended Posts

Anybody got any suggestions on the right induction kit and the right chip to upgrade my VR6. The Pipercross Viper kit has been suggested. But it's £220. The ordinary Pipercross Induction Kit is £70. Is it worth the difference? And the Vipersport chips for a VR6 on ebay? Any good anyone? :(

If they're the cheap (as) chips ones then I'd avoid them... you get what you pay for

I've dont know anyone with a viper... I hear theyre very good but at the end of the day its an air filter its never going to do much more than improve the sound and add a little bit to your rr figures! Personally I cant see it being good enough to justify the price tag... I've got a bmc which Id recommend but I think thats pricey at £155

Agree with Justin......stay away from CHEAP CHIPS......you're asking for trouble really. Go to a reputable tuning company and have a remap there.....AmD are very good or there's Stealth Racing. Remaps will be around the £300 mark...but if you can, try and go for a Dastek Unichip......fully reprogrammable.....they're around the £400 mark i believe.

Like the others say don?t bother with cheap chips..............as for the viper filter the advantage of an enclosed filter is it reduces the hot air drawn in...the viper kit looks the same as the bmc but £70 quid more...as for the piper cross cone filter,?. minty's old vr had an amd re map piper cross cone filter and a supersprint exhaust all together making for a huge improvement over my standard vr...with regards for generic chips, I?d personally avoid them as no two engines are the same, a generic chip works on standard factory parameters where by a remap will be suited to just your engine............you will probably gain the most out of it this way....hope this helps a bit :)

It's a pity Dastek seem good because I've got a Dastek approved dealer half a mile from my house. Unfortunately they're the worst cowboy outfit on the planet.

They don't use flanges on their exhausts (Powerflow approved dealer too), they chop the downpipe in half and weld the front pipe onto it, they didn't even put sleeves on my mate's Corrado's system. And another guy got his Mk4 Golf 20v Turbo on their rollers, they helpfully advised him that he was losing boost at around 6500rpm (where the limiter kicks in) and they proceeded to kerb one of his alloys taking it out of the building.

They were also on the phone to Dastek reporting a fault with the system because they couldn't figure out why a BMW 318i was only putting out 138bhp. The M3 bodykit made them think it was an actual M3. Idiots.

Star Performance in Kirkcaldy in Scotland do their own chips for £250 fitted that seem to give decent gains, I think I'm going to give them a try.

After speaking to various tuning compaines' date=' it's been adviced to use the chargers software as opposed to the dastek.... [/quote']

Who have you spoken to Pete?

Surely having a fully reprogrammable ecu is much better.....seems though you can fine tune the whole system ?!
