thegoth 5
... at Jim's, eight premium members came togetherSome major jobs where in the offing as well as some little niggles.VR6 Nat was first up having her long awaited coilovers fitted by the VR6OC pit team of Jim Potter and Cabrioman. At times, whilst her car was wheel less and up on four axle stands, her face was a picture of concern. Unwarrented but she does love her car and it shows. Even cleaning oily fingerprints of the bonnet whilst it was still up in the air.Feeling like the proverbial third wheels, GaVR6in, GoonerSteve and I tackled Steve's new lights. A dab of PlusGas released the 15year old screws fixing in the old fog lights. Fitting the new FK headlighs were as quickly dispatched. I removed the engine plastics and unplugged the coil in preperation for a compression test and demonstrated the steps on the first cylinder. Steve then continiued with the rest with some help with any troublesome plugs. All cylinders came out at around 160-165. Very reassuring for him. VAG-COM revealed that his front left ABS senor was the cause of his constantly lit ABS lamp.Once Nat's ABS pump had been fitted and bled it was my car's turn in the 'workshop'. Jim and I started on my strut braces and Cabrioman on the biggest job of the day: fitting the head he had freshly ported and flowed to Craggsy's newley rotex'd lump. My mechancal inaptitude soon showed itself through the snapping of several drill bits. Leaving the more talented Jim to continue I found a job more suited to my skill set; soldering a new fuse to the fan control unit from Gav's Corrado. Initially doing too good a job and burning out the replacement. A second attempt with a lighter hand succeded.Calico keen to lend a hand volunteered himself to change my old brake pads for the new red stuff pads I got £20 off for being a premium member. I helped where I could although that only extended to pre removing the wheels for him. My soldering iron came out again to repair the wiring for the, rare, pad wear circuits. The plugs were beyond saving with the simplest fix being just to solder the two wires together ignoring the pad sensor. So no longer a rare option! After my front pads where done and Craig's was ready for it's new head it was time for burgers and sausages expertly BBQ'd by Ben.I came of use again reaching up into my wheel arches to fit the washers and nuts securing my rear strut brace once Calico had finshed replacing the pads. When I left Craggsy's lump was coming back together nicely with just the schrick and charger plumbing to be done. Next step for him is the mapping of it at Storm on Tuesday. My thanks, big time, go to Calico for fitting my brake pads whilst all I could do was watch on, beers are on me at Bristol mate, and Jim for persevering with my strut braces. I've only had them 18months LOL. The caravan leveling ramps my parents donated also deserve a mention as the easiest way to give enough height to get the car back off the trolley jack. Special thanks to Jim's missus, Lisa, for putting up with us all, being the perfect hostess and no doubt dealing with any neighbours complaints ;-) And of course to VR6Pete for making it all possible. The VR6OC better for your VR than VW will ever be.
