ThermalP4 1
Is it wise to clean the engine with a steam cleaner? My instinct tells me no, but many a time i've seen the boys in the washbay at my VW garage blasting the engines with a steam gun.I'll purchasing a VR6 this week and after having 2 new 1.8Ts i want to keep the engine and the bay clean and nice looking.Any advice? acf8181 0
if theres nothing wrong with the engine before (i.e. no leaks or cracked leads) it should be fine.i steam cleaned with an industrial cleaner an old nova engine bay years ago, came up like brand new (and i mean like brand new) but ran on 3 cylinders all the way home as the inlet gasket leaked! was fine a few hours later tho. binliner 0
what he said... keep the engine running and make sure you've got a can of WD40... take it for a blast afterwards to dry it out
VR6Pete 1,455
I washed mine off with a bucket and a sponge then jetted it all off after while the engine was running.... here is my engine bay after I did it...Pete
ThermalP4 1
Looks sweet! mate.Forgive my ignorance but what would the WD40 be for? I'm guessing to use it like maintenance spray to shine up stuff like the battery cover etc?
VR6Pete 1,455
I just used black to black on my engine bay
binliner 0
the WD40 is just to spray on any electrical bits to help get the water out after its been done
binliner 0
I use the tyre black stuff on anything black rubber or plastic
tandino 1
Best to avoid spraying a steam cleaner/jetwash etc directly at any electrical items such as alarms or ecu's - just bag them up before you start
