Dropping a VR6 into a mk4 shell?

Recommended Posts

Basically, the VR6 I have was bought as a non runner and took me around 3 months to sort out....internals, bent valves, HG and such changed....I did myself as a project, a VERY small amount each week used to buy certain parts. It worked anyway and I loved working on the engine.

I'm looking at buying a MK4 shell or a smaller engined mk4 and as a project, dropping a VR6 lump into it.....but turning this one into a beast lol.....all the mods to bump up the power, a daily driver with FI.

I just wandered if this was possible without lots and lots of welding and messing about.....it would take me around 6 months to a year to do this one...without the FI anyway....so it would be an ongoing project.

Any hints, tips or advice welcome........NO, advice doesn't count as "BUY AN R32"...

you not put it in some thing else like mk1 or polo or some thing

I was looking at those options too. Mk4 golf looked appealing. V6 4MO means I made a pointless thread lol.

Mk2 was one I was looking at too, just depends on all bodywork mods needed. MK1 is a lot of welding as I'm aware and cutting away.

Polo, to me, would be an option, but I'm 6ft 5....

Well I'm having a tastey look..... near me there is a £495 Rado or a 1991 Jetta for 800..........I'm dribbling :D......Not very original I know.

The Rado must be a right beater at that price, avoid! Jettas are OK, if a little picnic blanket Pensioner's car.

America got a MK4 Golf with the 12V VR6, so it's doable if you want to go down that road.

m mate James has a mk2 polo square back project' date=' thats going 1400 16v and on bike carbs, a VR6 mid mounted would be a right laugh though :)

2nd that :$

If you buy a 4 motion you can still rip all the engine and box out and built it up for turbo so you still get to have a play... and tbf its a much better base car... better flowing head with the 24v and you with be able to transfer that power into going forward rather than just burning rubber :)

Your 12v will bolt in but could end up cheeper to sell the mk3 and buy the 4 motion (can get cheep atm)
