Cuske 0
I've got a mk2 with a vr lump in it. I'm after more power and was looking at sticking a rotrex charger on it, but I'm now been drawn to sticking an R32 in it, they look so sexy. I have a few questions, what's the weight difference between the two engines? Will the R32 sit straight on my vr mounts? I'm thinking it's about 250 but what's the bhp of an R32? And what's the score with the wiring?
spadam 7
in same situation as you mate but in a mk3. getting car ready this year then either rotrex or r32 engine. be nice to see what you decided on and why. what kind of costs are involved in fitting r32.

legvw 0
r32 swap is more of a headache, charge it!
mike 6
r32 engine may be more reliable than a charged vr engine thinking about it tho
Antihero1981 8
charged cars are ok if done correctly , for the price your better off sticking a charger on it ........more BHP for same money
Radostormvr6 2
VRT all the way
thegoth 5
why hasn't anyone suggested both ;-)
FishWick 21
The Rotrex works OK on the R32 as it's extra 300cc capacity fills in the torque hole left by the Rotrex's late spooling.IMHO, the Rotrex isn't particularly impressive on a 12V. You get MUCH better results with a turbo. 12Vs were made for them :-)R32 into MK2 isn't hard at all. You can use the factory ecu, remapped, and get a nice reliable 280hp.R32 and 12V VR6 weigh roughly the same.
