SankysVR6 1
Just ordered a set of Eibach PRO KIT springs to give a little drop of 30mm and a set Genuine shocks from the dealers !amazed is there anything that you think i will need,i.e. bump stops, top mounts etc. i dont want to leave anything out like the rear discs. where i had to go buy the wheel bearing the next day, as the old ones had to come out and it would have been just as easy to put new ones in.what do you think of the setup will be like ?! DundeeDub 0
when i was doing thins i was recomended to get new top mounts, bump stops and bolts to attach, you will need spring compressers to fit them together, you can pick them up in halfords cheaply
binliner 0
Yeah Id get new top mounts & bump stops... out of interest why did you choose oe shocks?

SankysVR6 1
do you think it's going t be a good setup or should i have gone for something different
andy 0
It'll be ok m8, I had this setup when I bought my car, I find the Eibachs definately on the firm side but I live near some horrendously bumpy roads so I'm a bit biased. I had knackered o.e. shocks which made the car roll around too much as well as the bumpiness of the Eibachs. ;-( Eventually upgraded to Konis with Eibachs and the car was very tight and handled very well, though the ride suffered a bit. I would have thought that with new o.e. shocks you would have a good compromise between ride and handling. The Eibachs' 40mm ish drop does make the car look a lot better. There is a bit of debate generally about whether using uprated springs can cause standard shocks to wear quicker than they should, I wouldn't be too worried, see how the car drives. Make sure you get the car wheel allignment done after you've had the suspension apart ast the camber and tracking will need setting.
binliner 0
Koni shocks (or other uprated shocks) would have been a better choice as they are shorter & stiffer to match the springs whereas the oe shocks are designed for the oe springs.I had a gti with oe shocks and -35mm springs and it was terrible but they were old shocks which could have had something to do with how bad the ride was.... Im sure with new stuff you'll be fine
SankysVR6 1
i know the koni's are the one to go for but they are very pricey.maybe if put the oe shocks on ebay and see if can make some money on them , then go for the konis.or might stick to the oe ones for a couple of years and save up for the konis. Nerih 0
sanky, you know i have gmax springs and original dampers. The ride okay, but be prepared to be JARRED by large potholes, i was on the motorway and hit a pot hole and think i broke a wheel LOL...vr6's tough buggers.good luck. SankysVR6 1
i might be a bit thick here but i need someone to help me out !dodge My new shocks arrived today all niceley boxed up. checked the shocks to make sure they wer genuine and all that and all looked cool !amazed so then i thought i wonder if i can push the piston down on the shock and i was able to push it in quite easily.now is that normal because to me that means that the spring will be doing all the work which can't be right can'it ~ ~ all four are the same except that the piston on the rear ones comes back out. and the front ones come out quater of the way. ~ ~
Nerih 0
dunno about how much force is required to move em, but i know that if you do move them, and they are springy (i.e they continue to bounce up and down even after you've let them go), then they are old....but urs wont be like that becuase they are new
acf8181 0
they should slowly come back out shouldn't they?!you wouldn't have been able to push the inserts in on my bilsteins - they are very very stiff!
SankysVR6 1
whe i bought some standard Bilstien shocks from ECP for my gti i found them very hard to push down infact they woudn't go down at all.
