ingham 5
synta silver is the best oil for vr6 engine imo
xyber 1
Ive tried a few different oils and synta is the best IMO aswellOthers either leave the engine a little noisier or the oil gets used up pretty fast, So I just stick to synta silver and do an oil and filter change every 3k or so as its only 30 mins work
gavinvr6 0
how much is synta silver and where can i get it from? is there a certain type i need? ie 10/30 or 0/30.
xyber 1
vw dealers or TPS ask for synta silver £22 and £12 respectivlyor GSF and ask for that or the fuchs version £12ish

spindat45 0
That will be per Gallon 4.5/5 litres. VR's take 6 litres
H13VYY 0
i thought it was 4.5-5 litres
spindat45 0
Just under 6 litres according to my Autodata CD. u usually get 4.5 litres and an extra litre but seeing as these engines use a little oil it's always good to have some spare for top ups
vr6newcomer 1
yup you need 2 five litre bottles for an oil change, and its nigh on 6 litres for an oil change, and stick the rest in the boot on the left hand side to use for top-ups.

Mexican 0
my boot doesnt have that little pocket thing on the left hand side like my 8v vento did!!anyways, thanx guys for your help! so is this silver synta fully synthetic? as ive heard thats the best and thats what my car has in it now! so that ok?
spindat45 0
Its a 10w40 Semi Synthetic. Fully synthetic is too thin for VR's imo.
Mexican 0
oh right!ive heard that i needed fully synthetic and thats what my ar has been running on! is it badt change it now?
spindat45 0
For our climate and following manufacturers spec, semi is the best for the VR6 engine. From past experience, you may find the car uses more oil when using a fully synthetic compared to semi as it's thinner. It may also be a little noisier if its a high miler. My VR is charged now and I'm still using a 10w40 semi synthetic..

Jonnyboy82 0
What is TPS or does anyone have a link so i can order my Synta Silver 10x40 Semi Synthetic.Or the cheapest place
spindat45 0
Very good price for that oil. Where from? Two of those and you'll have plenty for top ups. As long as it's the semi synthetic 10w40 it will be fine. The grade of the oil is the same as Synta so in all fairness should be much the same. It's only the additives that manufacturers add which increase the life of the oil but the viscosity, upper and lower temps of the oil when new are the same. The standard of oil, similar to the British Standard kite mark will also be the same regardless of the make. You'll find this on the side of each bottle. I think it's SJ or SK at the moment.Kevin
