A/C Question

Recommended Posts

Went to look at a highline at the weekend. Problem is' date=' the a/c doesnt seem to work. The seller said it just needs the gas changing... Whats the worst this could be if it was more serious than that.... its only done 45k...[/quote']

if it just wants recharging.......and it only cost about £40 quid why dose'nt the guy get it done...i know i would.......at worst it could be the air con compressor @£706 +vat :o (not often though) ...................from previous experience ive had the system recharged and found it to loose the gas again through the seals after a short period...............saying all that ,it's quite possible it just needs recharging :)

its just not a highline without the a/c working :(. If your'e really interested in the car , AA do a check (£160), worth doing and you can knock money off the car if they find anything. I would get the seller to recharge the a/c (or stipulate you want the a/c working!) and if he/she can do that you'll take it.

When i bought my car my front wheel was knackered and 1 of the door locks wasnt working (hole in vacuum pipe), and the passenger door wasnt sitting right. It was also reading IN01 (which you GOTTA check for, in01, in02, or oel, when you start the car you'll see em, they are all service indictators), was able to knock nearly £900 of the price....and i've only spent about £374 getting it fixed up (not including alloys LOL)...Make sure ALL the electrics work (including seat heators, heated wingmirrors and possibly heated windscreen washers, sunroof, windows etc etc), they are a pain to get fixed, don't take it without functioning a/c, it could cost anywhere upward of £40 - £700, do you really wanna take that risk? Make the seller change the gas....

Cheers all. Decided not to take it. The seller says he has taken off £500 already because of the aircon, sounds like a strange thing to do if it only costs < £100 to fix... all sounds a bit dodgy along with some other issues...

Thanks for the info and advice

its important for health reasons to turn your A/C on at least once a week.

If left very very very nasty bacteria and fungi can grow on the cold plates. It's becuase of the moister that condenses on these promotes bactrial growth in a humid enviroment (although its cold!).

Please, for your own sake, turn it on once a week.

type A/C hygene in to google for more info.
