Geastb 0
On wednesday i picked up my car after having new engine fitted - on friday a pipe burst and i lost most of my coolant - the engine oil tempo went up to 150 deg - i fixed the burst pipe and refilled with fresh coolant and engine seems fine (no smoke or funny noises) what damage could i have done tho?Or am i worrying for nothing? madmonkee 0
well excessive heat like that could have caused the head to warp, also u were lucky for none of the piston to have seized!!
acf8181 0
150...that crazy. why on earth did you keep driving? didn't the flashing red light on the dash make you think you should stop.headgaskets usually die between 110-120.i'll be amazed if you got away without damamging anything. anorak 0
150 degrees is high for oil temperature but I ran a VR Corrado for 2 years and did half a dozen trackdays where the oil temp regularly hit between 140 and 146. (Albeit for just 10 minutes at a time). In fact I used 146 as my cut off point to come in and let her cool down.I'd say just get the oil and filter changed ASAP and if you've got no untoward knocking or smoking you've got away with it.The VR is tougher than you think. 8o)
Geastb 0
It was only 150 for about 5min. I'ts only just had oil change 50miles ago so shouldn't it be ok?
VR6Pete 1,455
assuming ur water level went down, you should of got a flashing light to warn you of low levels.
tommy 0
I'd say if you stopped when the engine overheated you should be ok......the damage is done to an engine when you drive it regardless of how hot it gets,.... then things tend to crack and warp................I think your worrying for nothing....if the car is driving with no problems now your fine!
